Subject: Did I miss an announcement????

Engel47 ( ) posted Tue, 04 November 2003 at 6:53 PM · edited Fri, 10 January 2025 at 5:13 PM

I have just noticed on the gallery uploads page that the limit is now 1 image per day unless one wants to purchase the right to upload up to 3 per day. When did that change from 3 uploads per day and where was the announcement made?? I read the forum every day and cannot recall this having been mentioned here other that in general terms. Is there a thread regarding this change?

See the Forum Announcements section. It was a surprise to me, too. Just happened yesterday, near as I can tell.

Hi Engel, Here is the link in the Forum News Forum. It explains about the new upload limit, as well as reasons behind the change. The starting date yesterday, Nov 3rd. Hope this helps to clear things up :) ladynimue

Just when you thought it couldn't get more lame....

Please don't tell CL about this or we'll have to pre-order the right to upload 1 per day. Broken uploads will be the fault of the user's machine, No mac uploads will be accepted until Amazon discounts the upload price. When Daz finds out you'll be able to upload specific pixels, provided that you purchase the necessary pixel injectors. The base pixel injector will be available as a beta in summer 2195. The base pixel injector will post 1 full days black and white pixels, color pixels will be allowed once the non-competitive legalities are worked out but will be limited to 25x25 resolution which works well on the new OpenGl Preview. No Lightwave Upload plugins are planned.

And before you start bashing my negativity, lighten up and enjoy the sarcasm.

So...is it faster yet? My vote is no. I couldn't get to Renderosity at all for long periods today. Even when I could get to it, I got a lot of 404s, and had to hit "refresh" repeatedly to get the page to load. IOW, business as usual. :-/

galactron22 ( ) posted Tue, 04 November 2003 at 8:28 PM

If you ask me it's a good thing. Why? Every time I or anyone else uploads an image, 5 minutes later it's buried 3-4 pages deep.

Ask me a question, and I'll give you an answer.

droyd ( ) posted Tue, 04 November 2003 at 10:57 PM

I think it's a good thing. I don't see any reason why a person would need to upload any more than 365 images in a year. I think the quality of the images will improve because of this also. I know if I was fast enuf to want to upload 3 a day I'd still pick the best one. Also, there are other "artist" sites that are way more restrictive in terms of the quality of your images and what kind of hoops you have to jump thru to even be considered for posting, so I think things will work out fine, and yes it will be nice if my work doesn't end up on page 27 in less than a day because of the limit.

is it such a big problem? 1 a day is more than most people really need, unless you churn out 50 NVIATWAS every day ;) oh & Talley very funny lol :)

randym77 ( ) posted Wed, 05 November 2003 at 5:23 AM

I certainly don't need to upload more than 365 images a year. But sometimes I'd like to upload more than one a day. Some people like to work on their images for a long time, then upload them all at once. It would be nice if we could upload 7 a week rather than one a day. Still, if it fixed the bandwidth problems, the limits would be worth it. But it doesn't seem to have fixed anything. It was worse than ever last night, at least for me. I really doubt most people upload more than one pic a day anyway, at least on a daily basis. I uploaded one image last night, and it was four pages deep by 10pm - when Rosity went down for the night, at least for me.

Well, Ratteler, I think you're in a minority as a "serial artist". Please don't get me wrong but for most people, 1 image a day should be more than enough. I mean.. if you can churn out multiple images a day they're hardly all worth displaying. Of course SERIES are something else. Couldn't you put them all in one very long picture? Afaik there's no size limit (only in Kb). The only series pictures I ever did was made into one larger picture (but it's on Renderotica so I can't give you a link L) I for one welcome this change. I uploaded a picture, and when I went to see the first vomment it had got - in less than 10 minutes - it was allready half way at the end of the what's new page.

Thanks folks for taking the time to read this thread and post your replies. I see I will have to read the Forum News Forum - I have to admit that I had not been in there so far!! I always assumed that anything that was going on I would read about here, in the Poser Forum. ;-( This will certainly be interesting, and I reckon we shall see several threads on this subject in the coming weeks.

It is faster for me, it was getting to the point where I was checking other sites just to see if my dsl had gone belly-up. If you have more than one pic to show just show them in a sequence over a matter of days, then it would be in true serial order. Marque

milamber42 ( ) posted Wed, 05 November 2003 at 8:18 AM

I counted 129 images posted on 11/3 and 148 posted on 11/4 to the Poser gallery alone. Viewing at 18 thumbs per page, that's 15 pages to go through for 2 days. When a site is as big as 'rosity -- [1609 members on at 8:16 Central US time], limits will not help images from being buried. I recently saw over 4000 members on at one time. Anyone seen higher?

LOL I just want an alternate forum sometimes. I got a million and five SQL "Too many connections" again today. I realize R'osity is free, but...

I know this isn't perhaps the best method, but... how about allowing thumbnails in the gallery which link to the artist's web site/ image or series....that way, we can post away and still get exposure for Rendo and ourselves. And using thos little 200x200 thumbnails would surely save a ton of bandwidth and storage space on the servers.

But surely Ratteler releasing a series of pictures over a few days is more of an incentive for people to come back than loading the whole series in one go? That's how Comic books have managed to sell for over 50yrs, give people a little & make them want to come back for more.

TrekkieGrrrl ( ) posted Wed, 05 November 2003 at 2:57 PM

Will you stop putting words in my mouth? Sorry but I thought it obvious that the "if you can..." was a generic "you". Sorry if you felt targeted. It wasn't my intent. I also said that you were part of a minority being an artist that did serials. Sorry but you can't please EVERYBODY here. And honestly, if I see a load of pictures from the same artist posted the same day, I am NOT going to view them all, since I can't help thinking "whoa! mass production" I realize that this isn't neccesarily the cause, I just tell you how I view it. And it's not even Poser that is the big culprit here. Sometimes my pictures are buried by a ton of fractals in a matter of seconds. Surely some fractals are very very pretty, and I've also tried my hand on some myself, but the point is that in order to see ANY pictures, there NEED to be some sort of regulations to how many pictures are posted each day. In THAT light I welcome this new rule. Nothing personal at all, Ratteler :o) I like your pictures a lot :o)

"Bottom line is, people won't come back if the story is seperated by 100 images they have to sift through." If people went to YOUR gallery, the series would NOT be separated by hundreds of images. If your work (series work) was sought after, people could mark you as one of their favorite artists and would get a notice when you uploaded the next in the series. Just another thought.

randym77 ( ) posted Wed, 05 November 2003 at 5:04 PM

I still think allowing 7 per week instead of one per day would be a better way of doing it. Those who like to upload their work as series/serials could do so, without taxing bandwidth. And those who worry about their uploads being buried could choose to upload on slower nights (which will probably be weeknights). With the one per day rule, I suspect there will never be any slow nights. But as it is...you can still upload your work as a series. Here's how I'd do it. Each day, upload a "placeholder" image. It could be just a box of text: "Don't click yet, come back next week" or something like that. Then, on the day when you want to unveil the series, edit all the uploaded boxes to hold your real images, and upload another new image that will point people to the rest of them.
