Subject: Has R'osity been down or is it just me?

.. And if so, how long? Been trying to get in for hours.... :] Fish

FishNose ( ) posted Sun, 09 November 2003 at 7:19 AM

Judging by the times of peoples' posts here in the Forum, I get the impression it was down for about 7 hours, then up for a while, then down again for another 5 or so. Is that right? :] Fish

Must be contagious... it is actually raining here in California! ;^) I took so much excedrin yesterday trying to get the migraine to shove back enough to think... and then couldn't sleep and couldn't get in here either. :( Their server was throwing out all sorts of error messages. Carolly

We just had half a metre of snow here in the alps. Temp = quite a bit below zero. mac

I can see it already - in order to keep the service running smoothly, they'll soon require some membership fee...

C makes it easy to shoot yourself in the foot. C++ makes it harder, but when you do, you blow your whole leg off.

Putting an upload limit of one image per day to the galleries was supposed to do the trick - doesn't seem to have been very effective so far.

FishNose ( ) posted Sun, 09 November 2003 at 10:39 AM

Carolly, do you have constant migraine? Must be a real bummer strugglig with that almost all the time, dang.... Just think - 'they' can build smart bombs, save premature babies that weigh a handful, read your DNA, but they can't fix a bloody migraine, lol.... I have my constant back trouble, but that's nothing compared to an exploding head. :] Fish

It's been about 12 hours or more so since I could get on from here in sunny Sydney (Australia) I was getting some sort of SSQL error message (Too many connections). Still verrrrry slow. Hope they find the problem - guess they are working flat out on it - don't forget it's still Sunday there in the good ol US of A.

hauksdottir ( ) posted Sun, 09 November 2003 at 1:21 PM

Fishnose, Yes it's constant migraine. 3 years now. I hate not being able to sit down and devour a good fantasy book or do animations anymore. I used to be known as a primo pixel artist. Probably the worst thing is the depression. My neurologist said that I'd live for another fifty years... and I took it as a curse. I have never been the most tolerant person on the planet, but this last year I'd give "Lucy" a run for sheer snappishness. With luck Congress will approve a prescription plan and I can get the medicine again. ($600/mo for Zomig is out of the question.) However, there is a rose in the garden (Double Delight is a Queen of Hearts type rose), and it looks like the sun is breaking through so I'll go pull weeds. I try to do something productive each day. Being human is more than being a cat bed! I have friends in worse shape. One of them is diabetic and has to stab himself 3-4 times a day with a needles. :shudder: And there is some advantage to living in a modern age. A thousand years ago, they'd probably trepan my skull to release the evil demons. They still don't know what causes migraine of the various sorts, but I'd rather they tamed a misfiring neurotransmitter than went chasing down something with tail and pitchfork! Constant back pain can be a problem, too. Brain and body doesn't like being in pain. Think about doing something nice for yourself. Sauna? Carolly

Think the problem with Rosity is the same my old ISP was having, too many customers and not enough connections, routers or whatever. Kept getting slower and slower, finally I couldn't even check my own email, called them, was told to call back in a week. Changed isp the next day. Carolly, the seven years I lived in flaky state, I had a headache every day. Three days after returning to the midwest, no more headaches. Think it might have been either the poppy or lupine pollen, maybe something else, but once I left the area, the headaches quit. Replace the migraines with the worlds most rotten case if sinus, but a good fast descent in an airplane takes care of that for about twenty years. (Also makes sure I'm worth nothing for the next three days, but that's a minor irritation.) Rich

It has just taken me 35 minutes to get in!!! Getting the following: SQL7: INSERT INTO session VALUES (null, 1068415307, 1068415307, 1068417107, '217.120.5.154'), Column count doesn't match value count at row 1 - I notice there are currently "1459 surfers online" I have seen more online and had faster pages.

catlin_mc ( ) posted Sun, 09 November 2003 at 4:46 PM

I just posted a thread about this in the admin forum, this is getting beyond a joke. I've had all the above problems and got a new one tonight, page opened, nothing on page apart from the header. Also times for a page to open go from a min and a 1/2 to 5 min. All the fixes seem to make things worse and I'm getting very tired of it. 8( Catlin

_Audrey ( ) posted Sun, 09 November 2003 at 4:53 PM

Dodger says the SQL error you were seeing here is one that is caused not by the site having too many connections, but by the MySQL database server having too many connections left open to it. He says it would take a whole hour of coding and testing to make a program to find 'zombie processes' and kill them whenever they happen, and that the demon would be so fast that it would be able to run every ten seconds without being noticed, but that they are lazy in development on Renderosity, and it proves the world is unjust and absurd when sloppy, lazy coders like whom made Renderosity can have a successful ecommerce site and dedicated, intelligent ones like him have to look for other forms of income.

Charlie_Tuna ( ) posted Mon, 10 November 2003 at 12:19 AM

Maybe they got some former microserfs doing the coding?

Why shouldn't speech be free? Very little of it is worth anything.

Crescent ( ) posted Mon, 10 November 2003 at 5:26 PM

I just got back and I had tons of problems logging on today as well. The programmers know there's a lot of problems and are working on them. (I guess Rendie needs some Valium or something.) We're reporting weirdnesses, and actual problems, to the programmers as fast as we find them. Thanks for everyone's patience in this! Cres

catlin_mc ( ) posted Mon, 10 November 2003 at 6:05 PM

Could someone have hacked the site and put some disruptive code in place? I mean the programmers must know what they're doing 'cos most things ran ok for a long time, and it just feels like someone put a spanner in the works. Catlin
