I've tried now for an hour to post a message in the Poser Forum. Every time I am being sent to the Forum Front page :o( I finally figured that if my post was more than 4 lines on screen, it got dumped. Less than 4 lines and it posts.

Hmmm After 5 hours of constant Time Out I finally managed to get in again. Don't anybody move now! (except to fix the drop down links which STILL takes you to a blank page with only the header on it >_< )

I'm not moving, finally got in after 4 hours, and I'm in the UK, shouldn't have had any trouble at all. When are they going to fix it???

dialyn ( ) posted Mon, 10 November 2003 at 7:08 AM

If we all stand perfectly still, maybe nothing else will happen. Maybe they need to stop fixing things. :/

DarkStarRising ( ) posted Mon, 10 November 2003 at 7:12 AM

well i cant access any of the forums, communities, anything from the side panel, had to go to top bars to get here, whats going on?

Also I've expirienced that if I use a Enter/Carriage Return in my post it won't get posted. Instead I am sent to the Forum Front Page. sigh

Just about anything takes me to the Forum Front Page....it takes several attempts for me to post at all. The Marketplace is really interesting...search by word or Merchant pulldown and you get something completely unrelated.

LOL Bez. So true! And... Wow a lot of responses to my thread allready. Can you all spell "withdrawal" LOL Yes I admit I've been trying every 10 minutes or so all day long GG

I think "frustration" may be the word. I just woke up in California (5:20 am here)...yesterday Renderosity was more offline than online, as far as I could tell. I know they are working on it....I think they have discovered the rule of my life: the more I try to fix something, the worse it gets.

I keep getting Error, No picture was specified! when trying to post message in gallery. I was also getting this error after following an Ebot to view a recently-posted image. After several attempts with the same results, I went to the person's gallery and reopened the same image from there. Then I was able to add my comment to the image page. Dunno what it means, but maybe the info will help someone.

mateo_sancarlos ( ) posted Mon, 10 November 2003 at 1:10 PM

The monthly site slowdowns don't bother me. I can just try again the next day if it's not working. But I can see it upsets many other people, so maybe a new business model is needed. Hire 3 or 4 more guys for weekend/night shifts if the problems are happening then. Get somebody to examine server logs daily to determine which IP blocks to ban when suspected of DOS attacks or excessive bandwidth. Contact AOL, Earthlink or other ISP bandwidth hogs and tell them to turn off hourly site caching. Hire guys who are on call 24/7 to handle problems with attachment servers, or e-mail servers deluged by the latest Windows virus attack. If it's true that clients perceive the site as having unexplained monthly downtimes and connections slower than dial-up most of the time, that can't be good for business.

One of those guys at Poserpros was saying that Bondware was to blame. Maybe Renderosity can get Bondware to explain what needs to be done, if Renderosity has already tried buying more T1 lines and servers and it still hasn't fixed things. And that Robin in the Poserpros thread is a nice-looking lady, I must say.

xoconostle ( ) posted Mon, 10 November 2003 at 3:56 PM

I really like a lot of the PoserPros crowd ... they're not afraid to speak their mind, and there's a general conviviality over there that can be really enjoyable. However, there are lots of folks who hang out there (including some of the one I like and respect, and who used to be here) who MASSIVELY overstate the problems at Renderosity. I understand and sympathize with a lot of the frustrations and resentments, but IMHO the Renderosity-bashing goes way over the line. One person recently stated that anyone who buys anything from the Rosity marketplace is screwing us all. Give me a break ... business is business, and if you don't want to support this one, then don't! But going on and on and on about how Renderosity is the Root of all Evil is just so silly after awhile, and worse than that, boring.

dialyn ( ) posted Mon, 10 November 2003 at 3:59 PM

Personally I have zero interest in what Poserpros is saying. During the course of my work, I cruise on several hundred websites a day. It is not unusual for sites to have problems on any given day. Good grief, I've had our City webpage go belly up and Yahoo give out no access messages. It isn't the end of the world. It's nothing to go critical mass on. Let the programmers do what they need to do and wait on the doom and gloom. Nothing kills a site like rumor and inuendo...but why people believe gossip instead of waiting for facts is beyond me.

RNKarenER
Server error is a scripting error on their side, it doesn't really mean much to the end user actually, except that the site is having some problems coding wise that I hope they will get straightened out soon. It isn't anything you are doing wrong...

Ladynimue,
I got some evil pixie remover if you all need some...

Early in my life, I used to work in an indoor flea market that had such aspirations as PoserPro to Rosity that the large outdoor flea market would fold and they would be the place to be. What they didn't realize was that one drew the other, in a, dare I say it, symbiotic relationship. The same holds true here. No matter how much one hates or wishes Rosity would keel over, the reality is that Rosity is the central hub, the one stop shop, the place that introduces people to the world of computer graphics and to the other sites. I wouldn't known anything about any of those other places if it wasn't for Rosity. I like PoserPros for poser information and have bought from their store, but honestly, the crapping on Rosity would really make it hard for me to feel at home there.

xoconostle ( ) posted Mon, 10 November 2003 at 5:52 PM

Wise words, ShadowWind. There's less of an overall dichotomy than some perceive. There's also an obvious symbiotic relationship between this site and DAZ (and various other software/content proviers.)

Bez ( ) posted Mon, 10 November 2003 at 5:54 PM

Have to agree with you there ShadowWind. I've always liked Renderosity, and like you I shop there as well, If I want something I don't care where I buy it. Interestingly enough, there were 100 members online at PP's, compared to 1536 at Rendo, not bad going for a site that 1/2 of us couldn't get into today.

odeathoflife ( ) posted Mon, 10 November 2003 at 6:02 PM

well I never go to poserpro's cause it is 'just another php board' - am I the only one who finds those annoying... about the site, driving me crazy, spending more time at 3dc but they just do not have the forum traffic...so here I am click a link, keep modeling, come and check in a couple of minutes, click a link rinse repeat.

What do site wars get anyone.......shrugs shoulders...what's the point and who cares.

I'm with dlk. I go where I go and to hell with the site politics.

xoconostle ( ) posted Mon, 10 November 2003 at 9:36 PM

Totally. I doubt if anyone visits only one site, anyway. I think that the access problems of the last 24 hours here have shown just how valuable this site is to many people. They wouldn't be complaining if they hadn't noticed and didn't care. I think the issue with some of the "site warriors" is that this-or-that incident or policy change ticked them off at some point, and now they're on a crusade to convince others that diabolical intentions reside behind the veneer of civility. Every site has its pros and cons. They all work best when the members help each other out and enjoy their shared passion for art. That probably sounds too nicey-nice for some people, but I'm really happy to have multiple sites to participate in.

TrekkieGrrrl ( ) posted Tue, 11 November 2003 at 12:58 AM

odeathoflife, I go to PP sometimes. Not that often, mostly becourse I spend my time here and at Daz and there are only so many hours in a day :o) But without dissing anything or anyone I must say that one of the things I LIKE about Rosity is that is is NOT "another PhP board". Eventhough I am getting more and more used to them since I started my regular visits to Daz, I STILL find the jumping posts confusing. I like the chronology of Rosity. And I'm TRULY happy that the site seems to be running again :o)

It would have been helpful, yesterday, if there has been an announcement ON THE FRONT PAGE (ie, where people could see it!) that the site was expeiencing problems/undergoing an upgrade. It's like sitting on a train that's not moving - the frustration level is reduced if you know what's going on and why you're sitting there! I know that this forum is the usual place for such announcements, but given that it was inaccessible (to me, anyway!) for most of yesterday, any annoucement here would have been a waste of time! Anyway, it's good to see the site running again, and I just hope i satys that way for a while!

But, as AgentSmith stated in the Forum News forum, the STAFF couldn't access the site either. But yeah it should have had top priority whenever there WAS access, to slap a message on all possible pages that they were working on it.

Hi all. I was just wondering about the site colors. I got a script error (like posted above) earlier as well, but today the entire site (this is the first page that had the normal BG color) has a black background, and in order to read anything I have to highlight the text. I figured someone would have mentione experiencing the same, but since no one has I was wondering if I'm alone on this one? I'm not trying to complain. Just curious if this is part of the "under construction" aspects of what's going on. Thanks, -Schowler

ernyoka1 - yes that is what I like abotu rosity and the 3dCommune, they are not just those free php boards that everyone uses... I like rosities use of boards, and 3d communes use of allowing me to see only new posts or what ever...but with those php boards it just drives me crazy, they are all the same set up ( people you can modify them you know) same colours, same buttons, you forget what site you are at if you don't pay attetntion. sixus1's board is a php one, but at least they set it up to look good.

I saw an incident of that day before yesterday. I also had to highlight the text to be able to read it. But it was just the one page for me (front page) and just the one time. I didn't try to continue a session at that point, just came back later. And later, all was (and has been) well. :)

Err, as the guy who started that thread, dlk30341 stated the intent correctly - it was merely a mental exercise, and nothing more. Given the recent troubles, it was something that I found relevent, and until the bashing began, it was rather informative to me :) big, fat disclaimer, before anyone even thinks it: The opinions posted there under my usual 'nym are far superior to any posted by any company or organization, and are therefore not theirs... they're mine. /P

And a very informative thread indeed. It reminded me why I don't go to Poser Pros that often. Yes I participated in the thread. But I have to say it gets VERY boring with the constant Rosity-bashing over there. Sure there has been some odd bans of people here, which I neither like nor support, but in general I think this is a nice place. And at least I can't remember any constant bashing of other sites here. On the plus side I FINALLY go a link to the "duffelbag" thread, which I had only seen referred in rather vague terms before. That one WAS a hoot L

Constant 'rosity bashing at Poserpros?! lol That was one current speculative thread out of how many?! The current longest thread in the Chicken Coop forum is about the mysteriously unfound Weapons of Mass Destruction. 'Rosity stuff usually just comes up as entertainment. I finally got to read that Dufflebag thread myself. Hilarious indeed. Always wonder what will happen next. I could try calling someone a silk purse... but they may recall the sow's ear bit. To keep on top of the 'rosity silliness the best place to be is wherever Ironbear is posting, and he doesn't usually post indepth at Poserpros. I think he said Poserpros folk were still too polite or something. :D You can find him really posting at a very interesting thread or 2 at the 3d Arena about Bondware possibly breaking a contract with Rendez-vous 3d, and of course, 'Rosity's new rules for new merchants which include payment delays for the new merchants that still don't quite have anything to do with making people feel safe when they buy goods here that may be stolen...

I do go to Poser Pros as well as this place, and other places too, and nowhere else is there such a hatred towards Rosity than at PP. Sorry I just don't LIKE hate. No matter if it's justified. There's ALWAYS 2 sides to any matter. I usually try to stay out of that kind of discussions, becourse I don't want to choose side AGAINST anyone. But a thread that more or less is calling everybody on Rosity for Dipshits... well, I think that says more about it than anything else.
