Vue F.A.Q (Last Updated: 2024 Oct 26 8:50 am)
Me, I'm more confused than anything. I don't for a minute believe that those reporting big problems are making them up, or exaggerating them, I don't have them though. As I've developed bigger scenes in it I have started to experience some lockups, but I am running on an under-specced machine - 256 RAM with 64 filched by video, also a debugging Windows build which is itself a drain on resources - I have to increase my swap file pretty much daily. I really think that e-on's priority should be a demo download so people can judge for themselves how it performs on their specific setups. I also think that they made a big error of judgement in naming the render presets like the old ones, they're not the same settings and that should be made clear as some people are using them as benchmarks. Just my 0.2 GBP John PS forgot to mention I love it! Writing some precipitation scripts ATM that might look pretty cool if I could just work out how to get the wind to modify their behaviour.
It's been ages since I programmed anything (so I'll eventually be starting python from square 1), but if I remember my quick pass through the back of the book, doesn't Vue Pro expose that functionality? I would think you could call the float values being used each frame, build a function table to match the implied velocity, and use that t alter the precipitation angle (are we talking particles of some sort, or an animated cylinder plane in front of the camera? IQMWTK!). I've been playing with forester's rain objects, and the most successful set up I've tested so far had the .obj doing a loop about the camera, with the upswing far enough back that there was no particle in the view fustrum. Haven't worked out the correct settings and linkages yet, and I don't think it would do it by itself, but as the close in part of a multistage animated effect, it could be rather impressive...
Dale: Bizarre, I thought I'd seen documentation on retreiving wind velocity too, blowed if I can find it now though! I think I'll try setting up a scene with wind, then enumererate all objects and see if anything turns up. I'm actually working on particle systems, and, apart from spending ages searching for aforementioned info, I keep getting sidetracked by realisations of what could also be acheived in terms of fire, smoke, waves, just about anything, so breath holding inadvisable.

timefighter, there is already some work:-). One of mine is here. :-)GuittaWow guys! I've been busy off making boats, but if I can help with the particle effects by making smaller sets, consequtive sets or more round rain droplets for you folks, just let me know what you'd like to have. I'll try to whip it out and post it in th free stuff area. I've been working on a "real snow" set of particle objects too. If anyone wants anything like that made to spec, just let me know. I'll help any way I can. (I'll be putting the final "real snow" sets up for sale, but will post some versions in the free stuff area if anyone wants some to experiment with.) Vue Pro works for me! I'm happy. But it isn't for everyone.
At some point, I would consider buying it just for the ability it apparently has to export finished .obj and .3ds items. Just not sure I have a decent enough video card. I run XP Pro with 512 mb of DDR ram (1.7 ghz processor), but the video card is a bit of a "weeney" :) Is there a post here or at eon that speaks to computer specs??
Thanks gebe :) I currently run Vue 4.2, but do not use OpenGL. I got in the habit of not using it from a previous computer where it never worked. I have an Nvidia GeForce 2MX 100/200 card on my XP Pro computer. Vue works great with Open GL turned off. But if I were to buy Vue Pro, I would want to make sure I had a video card that would run it effectively.
Forester, thank you so much for the offer, can I take a rain check on it?:) I'm a bit cross at the moment: with incomplete and incorrect documentation, websites that lead me round in ever decreasing circles (anti-cyclones), but most of all with myself for being so unobservant that I can't define a set of behaviours for something I've seen so often as rain and snow. Hey, I live in England, what do we have here but weather? Seriously though, bad tempered isn't the way to conduct a project started for fun and relaxation, so I'm going to forget it for a couple of weeks and try making some static art. John
jhitham, sure, you have a rain check. LOL about the temporary inability to define behaviors for rain and snow. I had to take lots of super-quick photos myself to study the density of rain under different conditions before I made the "real rain" package. And its not as if I hadn't spent my life out in it, or anything like that!

Wow, yeah, I have got my Vue 4 pro finally! ... and I have such a lot of fun with it. At the moment I am playing god and create about 3-4 new plant species a day!!! Hopefully I'll somewhen come down from this trip a start making real picture one day!!! Until now I didn't have any problems with the pro version. Possibly because I run it on my new compi: a Samsung x10 notebook with the sweet centrino chip tech, 512 MB RAM, 40 GB internal harddrive and two external harddrives: 120 GB and 250 GB. Sorry, this message is a little OT - but I am so happy and wanted just to let you know. ;-) Bernie
