To paraphrase: Ballistic Publishing is proud to announce EXPOS2, the second in its series of award-winning EXPOSdigital art books. EXPOS1 has already been a phenomenal success, selling in 68 countries worldwide, winning numerous awards and critical acclaim for its extremely high production quality and featured artwork.

The only problem with the submission details is that where it says check which app you used it doesn't say Bryce. Does that mean they won't accept a work done in Bryce? It shouldn't mind you, 'cos earlier they say that any app can be used to make the image. Catlin

I wrote to them asking how Bryce artist's can enter, and invited them to browse the Bryce Gallery here. We'll see what comes from it.

foleypro ( ) posted Fri, 14 November 2003 at 6:31 AM

Zhann ( ) posted Fri, 14 November 2003 at 6:41 AM

Here's the link foleypro. At the site they said if we had images that we'd already finished to send them so as to avoid the bottle neck at the handin closing time. Catlin

Swade ( ) posted Fri, 14 November 2003 at 12:09 PM

Well..... I registered cause my curiosity was up. There is no mention as to whether or not it has to be a "New" image. However there are some stringent specifics... Not sure if I can post any of them here or not. Can I AS?

catlin_mc ( ) posted Fri, 14 November 2003 at 2:24 PM

The only real problem with any image that's submitted is the size they need for printing. My image "Seagull" uses volumeric world and it took an age to render it at 1100x825 and I daren' think how long it will take to render it at those kind of resolutions. Catlin

Swade ( ) posted Fri, 14 November 2003 at 7:04 PM

Yeah Catlin... it will take longer. That is certain. The deadline for entry submission is February 29,2004. If that helps any.... Wade

They said if you couldn't render at the specified size to go ahead and enter anyaway, just means they can't print your image full page in the book....

For those who want to enter:

How to Submit Artwork for Consideration
There are two ways of submitting artwork: via FTP (internet) or by CD-ROM (snail mail). Please read carefully below regarding the format of the images - as it is vital that you submit images with a high enough resolution.

Captions
All entries must be accompanied by a description of the image, and the software used. Details are on the entry form.

Image Size (IMPORTANT PLEASE READ)
Image dimensions should be print resolution (as large as you can possibly render). Do not send in a low-resolution placeholder and ask us to get back to you, as we won't.
A guideline is 2657 pixels wide and/or 3636 high, 300 DPI.
DO NOT upsample your images to achieve higher resolution. If you cannot reach the desired full-page resolution, just send in what you have.

Watermarks
Please DO NOT put any watermarks, company names, URL's or any other text on images you enter. All images will be fully credited with information you provide. If you deface you images with any redundant text your image may not be accepted as we don't have time to edit these out or contact people and get them to submit new, clean, images. It is acceptable to sign your image.

Image Format Images must be an uncompressed RGB TIFF (.TIF) format. (PLEASE READ SECTION BELOW ON IMAGE PREPARATION!)

Uploads Images and completed entry forms must be included in a zip file.
Only one image and entry form per zip file.
Multiple entries must be uploaded in multiple, different zip files.

Submission method and deadline Although we do permit entry on CD, we strongly recommend that you use FTP to submit your entries as the entire submission process is automated and trackable.
We will email all FTP entrants to confirm receipt of your entry.
Late or incorrect entries will not be accepted.
To avoid a bandwidth bottleneck at the end of the entry period we strongly suggesturge people to enter as quickly as possible.
All entries must be large enough for print resolution. Do not send in low resolution placeholders and ask us to get back to you, because we wont.

Deadline for Entries
Deadline for entries is 29th February 2004.

How to send it
You can either submit your entries online for convenience, or by mail/courier.

For online submissions click here.

For offline submissions click here.

What if you do get in?
We'll inform you by email if your work has been accepted into EXPOSbefore printing. If your work does not make it into the second issue of EXPOS we will automatically retain your entry for consideration for the next issue.

Image Preparation
We are striving to make EXPOSthe highest quality collection of digital art ever created. To do this we need you to submit the best quality images that you can make. Here are some general notes that may help you improve the quality of your images for print.

  1. You should feel free to "hand edit" your images as much as you like. 3D renders should be viewed as if they were raw photographs -- they should be hand edited, colour corrected, sharpened, and edited to improve their quality as much as you can.

  2. Monitor gamma and colour settings vary considerably. We will be reviewing all images on a standard system that is representative of most computer systems and is also optimised for print reproduction.
We will be reviewing and preparing all images on a monitor with sRGB colour response and a gamma of 2.2.
We have provided a monitor calibration image (colour calibrate gamma 2_2.jpg) to help you set up your monitor. You MUST display this image at 100% in a program that does NOT alter the gamma (not Photoshop). We have provided the image as a 100% quality JPG image so that you can view it in any web browser.
You should adjust you monitor controls so that the difference between the solid and dithered areas are minimal. Ideally you should be able to make all the solid squares match the surrounds -- however this is not possible on most monitors in which case you should adjust your monitor so that most of the mid range is matched. You should sit back from the monitor and squint to blur your vision to best judge the match.
You should do all adjustments on your monitor if you can. If you have a choice you should not adjust your graphics card gamma or any other software controls unless you have an ATI Raedon, NVIDIA FX or other card with FLOATING POINT display buffer. The reason for this is that there is just not enough resolution in 8 bits (24 bit RGB graphics buffer) to permit adjustment of gamma response without seriously degrading the shadow detail.

  3. Do not convert your image to CMYK and do not over-sharpen it for print. We will be applying CMYK conversions and other filters that are optimal for the print process we have chosen. It is probable that we will be employing the most recent direct to plate and stochastic screen processes for printing. You should concentrate on providing images that look excellent on screen and let us perform the optimal preparation for print.

You need to take the link to submit, however these are the guidelines for your entry......
