Poser - OFFICIAL F.A.Q (Last Updated: 2025 Jan 20 11:41 am)
This question was also asked in the DAZ forum. Here is what I wrote. I have also included some of the other contributor's text to give context. The full thread may be viewed at http://forum.daz3d.com/viewtopic.php?t=980 Please note that the DAZ thread is still open so to please read that also to ensure that a full and fair opinion may be obtained.
I purchased it at the weekend. Here is my initial feedback:-
It works :)
Ease of use
If you are comfortable with using the Poser magnets then you'll be OK with this. Reading the instructions is essential. This goes for any program but I doubt if you will be able to just "click around and hope it works". I found the instructions well written and clearly laid out.
Advantages
Compared with the Poser magnets there is a greater ease of control over selection of vertices. You can actually control down to a single polygon with the Poser magnets but this application makes selection a little easier. Plus you can select single vertices.
Once the morph is created it will automatically create the Full Body Morph.
The Open GL viewing window is fast and easy to manipulate. Essential for quickly seeing what you are doing.
Disadvantages
I found it easier to move Poser magnets than spin the dial in this program. I think its down to the sensitivity of the dial. I found I was holding down on the increase arrow for ages before I could see movement in the morph. You can type in values which is what I ended up doing. Not a biggie just an observation.
Although I can save the "Stack" (a list of all the components that I used to create a morph), I think I can only apply it to the same model. I do not think I could make one morph then use the same stack to apply to another model. If I were creating a morph in an item of clothing to match one in V3 I would want to create the same morph in another similar item. Poser magnets can be saved then reapplied to another model. I have not found a way of doing this so far in Morph Master. There may be a way, I just have not found it.
Conclusion.
I feel that this application has been well produced and performs as advertised. Though not something I would recommend to a beginner I feel that anyone with reasonable experience with Poser and 3D modeling will find it a useful addition to their tool box. If you are not sure, then try out Codetwister's earlier version. (http://www.codetwister.com/). It is still available on his web site. If you are comfortable with this then I'd say that the cost of the updated version is well worth the additional features.
"What changes could I make to her face with MM that I couldn't do without?"
Since its already possible to make morphs and full body morphs in Poser then I would say none. If you already have a separate 3D modeler in which you can make morphs then again the answer would be none.
Morph Master gives you another option. I'm sure there will be some folks who find the Poser magnets challenging but will find this utility straight forward.
Will it suddenly make morph creation so simple that you can do it with your eyes closed? ... I doubt it. Is it several times better than any other method I've used? ..... again no.
Try the free one, if you like it then the upgrade is worth it. If you don't get on with the free one then you will not have wasted your money.
"There is a mention on the product page, or in one of the pop-ups, of using a pre-exisiting morph as a deformer. Does that mean you can use a figure's morph to deform a clothing item, like a selective Tailor-ing?"
Using a pre-existing morph as a deformer.
Yes I initially thought that I could use a figure's morph to deform the clothing but in fact that option just means that you can add to or edit an existing morph. You can set the morphs in the figure as a guide as you manually create the morphs in the clothing but you can not push out the clothing by using the figure's morph dial.
Re reading the store page it may be helpful if this point is clarified.
There is also a MMPro 2 Demo at Daz. Bottom of product page I believe. I played with it for awhile yesterday and as a beginner (1yr)I found it fairly straight forward, and the tutorials brought me the results I had expected. I'm quite sure I wasn't attempting anything like PhilC,cause I didn't understand half of what he said above (someday);-)
I don't think the old, free, version is quite the same as the new Pro version. The old version didn't load cr2 files, only obj files. I downloaded the demo of the Pro version. The "wizard" was totally useless. It was more like a slide show, telling about features or something. A wizard is supposed to ask for you input, and do the job for you. I read the tutorials, and it's like he's talking to someone who already knows the program... in other words, I'll pass.

Now that it's been out a while and people have had time to work with it - what's your opinion? Previous threads on the subject didn't really reach a useful conclusion, it was too early then. The big question is - does it have tools that make it much more useful than the tools in Poser - magnets etc. And does it have a UI that simplifies JP work and stuff like that? :] Fish
