That looks cool...who is scott richardson? Damn, I really hope there is a #6. But for Windows too!

Erlik ( ) posted Fri, 21 November 2003 at 5:56 PM

Only the elements of the existing Bryce GUI, but slightly redesigned and put in unexpected places. I think it would be quite unwieldy on anything less than 1280. The interesting thing is that the designer put in the multi-pane icons, just like they are in Poser 5. But four panes would clutter up the screen somethng horrible with all this on it. There's something about the GUI that reminds me of Cinema 4D. Which gets to be unwieldy at my 1600. Ah, well, it's only a demo, anyway, not that I spend much time on it. BTW, Bryce started on Mac only, didn't it? :-)

http://www.shoal.net.au/~starsurfer/ ie http://www.scottrdesign.com/ Is that that Scott Richardson? Now that you've mentoned it, the name certainly rings a bell...

Yes, Bryce was originally Mac only. And, yeah Scott Richardson is quite a good Bryce artist, does some interesting art. I assume it is the same guy... AS

Hmmm...its great news for the Mac users, but am i the only one that thinks that interface is a total mess? Looks like a pinball machine...

Hey, i mean...i like pinball... I think it's alright, a little cluttered for me...i hope they convert her over to windows eventually. I mean, i can deal with good old Bryce 5, but it'd be nice to see Bryce continue with the only operating system i can use, due to the fact that i don't like macs. Don't get me wrong, macintosh computers are about 12 times better than PC's, but the multitude of programs that don't run on Mac's...

foleypro ( ) posted Fri, 21 November 2003 at 8:17 PM

Well....I want to beta test it any way I can...Scott if you are watching I will Betatest for you when you switch it to WinDo$e... I like the interface,I hope we can move things...

sackrat ( ) posted Fri, 21 November 2003 at 9:53 PM

Yeah Scott, don't limit your market,....afterall, it's not like 68% of the rest of the world uses Windows or anything. I can build a dual Xeon 2.2 Ghz machine for about $1175.00 US,...........can Mr. Jobs match that ? My main complaint against Apple and Macs is the elitist pricing policies. Make them a reasonable price and I'll buy one,........hell, I'll buy two !

FWTempest ( ) posted Fri, 21 November 2003 at 10:47 PM

frankly, I kinda like the interface... he says his intent is present this new Bryce to Eovia. This interface has much in common with Carrara (just upgraded to Carrara 3, myself, and I gotta say that I haven't had this much fun with a program since I first got Bryce) with a lot of old Bryce thrown in as well... I think I'd put the palettes up top on tabs like they currently are in Bryce, to free up a little more room, and stretch the drawing window as much as possible... looks much like my C3 UI does right now, and I find it quite usable at 1280 x 1024 on my 15" monitor... not that I don't long for a larger monitor and higher resolution.... but it works just fine for me.

FWTempest ( ) posted Fri, 21 November 2003 at 10:49 PM

...and I'd definitely want to see a PC version. Sign me up for that PC betatest job when it's available, too.

Swade ( ) posted Fri, 21 November 2003 at 11:28 PM

You guys missed this on his page maybe? "22nd Nov'03 Bryce For Mac officially launches to help support the continued development of Bryce for macintosh (and PC)" Looks like PC is included in his plans.

I think this project is years from beta-testing. It sounds to me like the site is at this point a forum for discussing future Bryce features, etc. and I'm assuming the interface shown is just an illustration. Looks like this could be a really good thing for Bryce and I'm looking foreward to when the rest of the content is up

drawbridgep ( ) posted Sat, 22 November 2003 at 3:46 AM

Call me a skeptical old B******, but I think this might be more wishful thinking. Obviously I don't know the author and his track record, but it looks to me as if this project would have to be worked from the ground up. Unless he has access to the original source code and he'd have to buy the licence too. I'm a little worried that (if it does get off the ground), it would be a pale clone of Bryce. Not too sure about putting all the feature onto the same window. I like the current GUI just fine (although hated it to start with). Maybe the next evolution should be based more on functionality (render speed, more high end functions) rather than beauty. BUT, after a few minutes of investigation, I think the domain is registered to Pendulum Digital and a look at their website shows there's a great deal of talent there. It is Australian, so sounds like the same guy some of you know.

Cheered me up anyway. Always hope.

Yes, basically wishful thinking. He doesn't have Bryce's source code, so no he can't make a Bryce 6. As Scott says himself on the site "No this is not a real application yet, but only a proposal" But, it's all a great graphical way to get more of a spotlight on what we all want...Bryce 6. AS

Wombat ( ) posted Sat, 22 November 2003 at 5:28 AM

Bryce 6 (Corel) was NOT stopped before the first parts of development. Some features reached alpha status. So there is much that could be used for further development. I remember the great features planed for the new Bryce. Actually there is nothing similar in Vue or other software. Point is: Vector must see there is a market for it Corel made some mistakes with Bryce 5. Not cheap enough for most of the hobby artists. Not enough new for many to make them buy it. Some features not working perfect e.g. the treelab. No cooperation with curious labs. No faster renderer so especially the new renderoptions are useless for many users. Not enough GOOD marketing. There are more errors they made but that are the biggest I think. Corel has a big problem with ideas, imagination, creativity these days and that causes their problems. Especially Bryce need what they don't have on top of that company.

AgentSmith ( ) posted Sat, 22 November 2003 at 2:48 PM

I have heard (and read on the web) from certain well-known Corel beta-tester regulars that they had a Bryce 6 beta in their hands. Still, others say it never happened. I'm quite sure Vector sees a market for Bryce, but they are busy trying to build up Corel with their biggest sellers first. Just the way it has to work. ;o/ AS

catlin_mc ( ) posted Sat, 22 November 2003 at 7:35 PM

Well if nothing else this keeps me dreaming of the day we can all go buy our Bryce 6. If this is real I can only hope that it will eventually be ported to the PC too, as was the original. 8) Catlin

Rayraz ( ) posted Mon, 24 November 2003 at 8:57 AM

A bryce 6 would be cool. But I'm still kinda sceptical about this site. It doesn't give any information about sourcecodes being bought or corel actually restarting work on bryce 6. Without one of those 2 there's not going to be a bryce 6. I don't like the interface too much the way it looks now. I'll be looking forward to more info, because this is defenitly interesting.

I was a Bryce 6 beta...and Corel NEVER released anything out of their office. Some alpha and prealpha parts they worked on. Many concepts for new functions and that was it.
