Subject: Diamond Viper V550 vs. GeForce vieo cards

lilmikee ( ) posted Thu, 20 July 2000 at 12:40 PM · edited Sat, 21 September 2024 at 2:57 PM

I am looking to get Lightwave3D 6 to go with my Bryce and Poser and was wondering about video cards. I am running Win98se with a p2 350 processor with dual scsi hard drives. I have 128mb of ram and have a Diamond Viper V550 video card. I was wondering if that will be good enough for lightwave3D. Or is there a major difference between that card and my Diamond Viper V550 card?

I would have to say that more than your video card, upgrade your processor and ram. Rendering is always processor intensive, and a 350 is just going to slow you down. 128mb of ram is decent, but if you want to have anything else open on your system aside from lightwave and still be able to work, go to at least 256.

Unfortunatly my motherboard will only support a processor up to maybe 450 which is not a noticeable difference. I was looking to upgrade my computer as best as possible without having to put a new motherboard in (that would basically be building a new system). I am going to get a new computer in the future but was looking to upgrade my computer so it is compatible with LW6 as much as possible. So that was why I was asking about video cards.Although someone emailed me from LW6 newsgroup and he told me he runs a Diamond Viper V550 with his lightscape and it runs fine except for a few glitches but that's mainly because he has win98se and not WinNT.
