Subject: Seam Guide Lines

OK, I thought I already understood this, but a conversation I had with someone elsewhere has made me question that. When you are in PhotoShop, painting a new texture for an article of clothing (let's say the V3 Ultra Cat Suit), do you paint up to the outer lines on the seam guide, on the outer lines or over the outer lines? This is important if you have a bead of material that you want to have appear exactly at the seam, since if your off, it will appear wrong on the image, I think :) And is there a good tutorial for painting using seam guides? Any help with this question appreciated.

Are you using SnowSultan's Seam Guide? It's much better refernce then just the B&W standard template. Usually you have to slightly overlap the line itself and each model will have to be 'tested' for it's acuracy, UVMapperPro is good for this as you can actually plug it into your paint application and view your results real-time. I don't think there is any real hard-fast rule for where to 'draw the line' as it will depend on the acuracy of the template itself (has it been reduced, resized, resolution, etc) basically just trial and error untill you find the right spot. If you don't have UVMapperPro then I would HIGHLY recommend it! www.uvmapper.com Also do a search for a tutorial Dr Geep did on making money, he briefly describes the 'edge issue'.

Definatly paint beyond the edges of the seam. But if you want a bead along the seam, i would suggest to simply choose one side of the seam on which to put it, rather than trying to match that up properly on both sides. Rawnrr

Yeah, igohig, I'm using his guide, otherwise I wouldn't have a chance with my limited artistic abilities :) And that's a good point I hadn't thought about, Rawnrr. Thanks guys.
