Subject: Made a "Mystic Cupola" prop - can anyone host as a freebie?

I've recently installed Lightwave, and I've been teaching myself how to model. I bought the Lightwave 101 CD by Epic Software, and last night I finished the 6th lesson. Decided to take a break and play with what I've learned so far, so I started playing with the Boolean additions/subtractions/merge tools and within an hour I had roughed out a little pseudo shrine/cupola/entryway kind of thing. Another two hours to clean it up, convert to obj, slap on a crude box UV Map, import to Poser, and texture. Then a while to put it in a simple scene for a couple of test-renders. I must confess i'm a little jazzed at how it's turned out, and how quickly it worked. If I was better at this already, I'd have added skulls, gargoyles, spiraling columns, or some such to it, plus a "grunge" texture. I don't know if anyone else would like this, or would be willing to tweak it a little, but I'd like to offer it to the community as my first freebie. I'd need someone to host it for downloads, and anyone who wants to improve the UV-Map or properly texture it is certainly welcome to do so. Anyone willing to try the texturing or host the download, I'll Zip it up and Email it to them. I haven't really invested all that much time in this, so if no-one wants it, it won't destroy me, but I've gotten so much from this community, I'd like to think I can give something back. Cheers! I'll host it for ya. I'll also see about doing some textures for it. email: graphicfoxx@email.com Looks good so far, btw

It would be a good idea if someone (not me ) started a poser site that would host freebies that people made. I have made a few freebies and I am sure I will make more but it puts you off knowing you don`t have a site to put them on.

Please let us know when you get it hosted, I'd love to have a go at texturing it. 8) Catlin

Thanks, guys - I'll zip it up and send a copy to each of you. The UVMap needs work to do a really decent job of texturing. I'll include the fractal I used as a refl map and the settings I used for the corroded dome in case you want to do something similar. Is anyone here really good at UVMapping so we can get one "official" template? The one on it now looks like this - vanilla template out of UVMapper. I'll be pleased to Email it to anyone interested in trying to work on it. The ZIP comes to about 500K. I can't tell you how pleased I am you guys think it's worth your time. . . *G* Thanks again Jerry leather-guy

Very nice...there have been a few props along this line released in past months...This one is the nicest I have seen.

catlin_mc ( ) posted Wed, 26 November 2003 at 7:35 AM

I've got to agree this is the nicest one to date. 8)

It looks very good. I am not very good at making textures so I will wait till this is a freebie.

GraphicFoxx ( ) posted Wed, 26 November 2003 at 11:32 AM

Whoops. Uploaded the thing as soon as I got it, but didn't realize it wasn't quite ready to go. So I deleted the message. The link will be back up soon however. leather-guy, make sure you submit to free stuff as well so that more people see it. xantor-your idea is something that I could probably manage. Lemme think about this, but I don't see any problems with hosting people's freebies. I could have separate folders for each person, and probably individual web pages for each person's products. At any rate, I'm gonna tink around with this thing a bit, and see what I can come up with. Foxx

Ok, how does this template look? It's a bit easier to handle, and laid out so that things are accessable. I'll make a simple texture for it, and set it up as an actual prop. Then package it all together and post a link. Foxx

Ok, here's a texture for it. Let me know if you like it. And if so, then I can get to packaging. Foxx

Heh heh - Too cool! That looks like a heck of a lot better map than I used. Many thanks!

Here's a download link for this bad boy. I made an addition to the readme. Just some basic stuff really.

Thanks for making this a freebie leather-guy! It's definitely a cool prop.

Thank you again Foxx, it renders beautifully! I've never posted a freebie before - does this thumb look okay? Or did you want to post it?

mondoxjake ( ) posted Wed, 26 November 2003 at 10:05 PM

Thank you people...this is really a great prop. I just d/ld Dark Whisper's beautiful freebie Sara from the Daz forum board and I think my first render will be of her in the Mystic Cupola.

GraphicFoxx ( ) posted Thu, 27 November 2003 at 4:45 AM

That thumb looks good man. Post away! And no, I'm not going to post it. It's your freebie man ;) Are those 3dmodelz treez in that image? Or some other trees?

Ben_Dover ( ) posted Fri, 28 November 2003 at 1:06 AM

That's outstanding, what a terrific freebie! Thanks leather-guy for the hard work and GraphicFoxx for the packaging and hosting.

Ben_Dover ( ) posted Fri, 28 November 2003 at 1:11 AM

Oh BTW, we can host as well. If you have a 3D prop...in any model format, we'll be happy to host it. We host nothing but freebies. Contact Fitzy at http://www.planit3d.com or myself here at r'osity or PlanIt3D. Happy renders =)
