Poser - OFFICIAL F.A.Q (Last Updated: 2025 Jan 10 1:16 pm)
I pulled my complete poser directory over the network to a new folder on a new computer- worked fine I've also taken the "old" HDD and stuffed it into a new computer with no problems. both poser 4 and 5 still working. mind I was going from a windows 2000 NTFS file system to an XP NTFS file system ( not FAT 32) so I cannot say if the file allocations would remain the same. I repeat I did not reinstall poser on any of my machines
I always decide to wipe my hard drive and start again from scratch whenever I update the operating system. Of course you need to be sure you've backed up all important data, and you have your drivers etc. And you need to be sure you have the CD for your previous Windows version if you bought the update version of Windows XP. It's just better in the long run to start with a good clean install...
Upgrading is always chancy - too much risk of something being left that should have been deleted or vice versa - and is strongly discouraged by many developers. You can do a clean install from an upgrade disc - it should just prompt you to stick the old OS disc in the drive for verification. Poser seems pretty tolerant about being moved, but at worst you would need reinstall only the application and then just copy your Runtime back (if you backed it up).

I'm sure alot of you have upgraded to XP. Did Poser Pro Pack or Poser 5 still run fine. Or would I have to reinstall? Did other programs need to be reinstalled as well. I'd like to upgrade but I fear the worst - days and days of reinstalling drivers and software!
