Subject: where to get Victoria reduced resolution?

kayarnad ( ) posted Tue, 02 December 2003 at 4:43 AM · edited Sun, 05 January 2025 at 7:07 PM

just a request for a quick link on where to get the free reduced resolution version of Victoria... I searched the Daz3d site and couldn't find it, not even in the freebie archive... maybe i just didn't search well?

Little_Dragon ( ) posted Tue, 02 December 2003 at 4:53 AM

No, you probably did an adequate job of searching; you were simply late to the party. DAZ gave away Victoria 1 Reduced Resolution for free as a limited-time offer (like their weekly freebies) back in May 2002. She's now sold in the store for about $10. However, over the past year she's popped up on the cover CDs of several popular 3D magazines, so it doesn't hurt to check the newstands occasionally. Buying her from DAZ is probably cheaper than ordering a back issue of DIGIT or Computer Graphics World.

oh well, not the first time I'm late for the party... thanks for the info!

DAZ's latest newsletter included links for free downloads of both Michael and Vicky reduced resolution. Not sure if that was the regular or PC newsletter; I've deleted it. But I think it was the regular newsletter. It said something about wanting us to have the figures we needed to use all the items that were on sale (the 40% off sale, I assume). I don't think the latest newsletters have been posted to the DAZ forums yet, but they probably will be. Keep an eye out.

Little_Dragon ( ) posted Tue, 02 December 2003 at 5:23 AM

I believe that was a special mailing to people who haven't registered at DAZ before ... some sort of promotion to lure in new customers. Might be mistaken, though.

randym77 ( ) posted Tue, 02 December 2003 at 6:20 AM

I've been registered at DAZ for over a year, at the same e-mail address. But if it is an offer for new customers only...just register, and you'll probably get the offer yourself soon enough! (Though heaven knows why I'd have gotten it. Given all the money I've spent at DAZ, and the fact that I'm a member of the PC, you'd think they'd realize I have the figures I need to use their props and clothing!)

I believe its on the cover disc along with RR mike of Computer Arts magazine, well in the UK anyway. I think it was Issue 89 - November 2003. It has a pink cover. You might still be able to find a copy! -SimderZ- xXx

I just tried it. It worked fine for me. I just had to log in first, as usual at the DAZ site.

I download the file again, no problem. It opens normal as any other win application. Mazak

btw. at Mec4D.com you can download free professional textures for Vicky and Mike. So you get a very good Poser starter pack. http://forums.mec4d.com/viewtopic.php?t=202 Mazak

The Daz links for the free Vicki textures, were offered (as Little Dragon stated) for a limited time only, and are not longer available for public download as a free item. They are not to be downloaded now, excpect by a special newsletter or coupon offer. As Daz is so generous with all of their free items, I would hate for that to be taken away due to back-door url's. Thanks for your understanding. ladynimue

Mazak ( ) posted Tue, 02 December 2003 at 1:25 PM

Do what you want, the forum is yours ;-) The files are still on the server, the links do work. If DAZ did not want it longer as free they must remove the files! Mazak

The newsletter that you referenced was dated Nov 21. and is no longer the most current newsletter. Please do not repost these links. Thank you for your understanding. ladynimue

I just spoke to Steve over at Daz, and he confirms that the downloads were ONLY offered as a promotional download, and are NOT to be offered in a public forum, or passed around through email or IM. I am sure if you are interested in this product and you think you were offered the freedown load through a newsletter and misplaced it, please contact Daz for further help. However, Please Do Not Post the links to these products anywhere on the Renderosity Site or in Renderosity IM's. Thank you for your understanding in this matter. Sincerely ladynimue Moderator

I just got the offer this weekend. They have their Nov. 21 newsletter archived on their website, and it's not included there. Hmm. I wonder if it's some kind of rolling offer? Seems like a few people get it each week, not necessary new customers, either.

ladynimue ( ) posted Tue, 02 December 2003 at 2:21 PM

Hi Randy, Daz has special promos throughout the year - Some are archived others are not :) However, this one is only to be downloaded from their site or if you receive it as a special offer through a newsletter or site promo :) I imagine it works simliar to the Renderosity Magazine's Bonus Online Content. We offer the online bonus content link through the magazine but not to the general public. ladynimue

If you didn't get them, just wait a while. Chances are there will be another promotional offer, be it a download or a cover CD. Usually, there are posts in this forum when interesting things are available on cover CDs.

catlin_mc ( ) posted Tue, 02 December 2003 at 5:38 PM

This had been puzzling me too, but if these d/l's are indeed the lo res versions then I guess I don't need them 'cos I got those with the Computer Arts CD. 8) Catlin

woo, didn't think this thread was going to last any longer beyond my last post. Anyway, I was just asking because I have pretty much all the main Daz people, but I never got around getting the low-res versions, and the collector in me compulsed me to try and look for them. Thanks for the info and I'll keep an eye open for future offers from daz.

kayarnad ( ) posted Tue, 02 December 2003 at 10:36 PM

gosh!! why don't I ever check my bulk mail?? (that's where the daz newsletter usually ends up, for some reason). I had gotten the offer! look: "As a result, we're going to give you a direct download link to our Michael 1 and Victoria 1 reduced resolution figures at no charge: Download M1 RR and V1 RR here M1 RR PC Version M1 RR MAC Version V1 RR PC Version V1 RR MAC Version" and sure enough, the links don't work anymore... oh, man!! and the newsletter has a "no reply" address... is there any way for me to still take this offer or did I just arrive late to yet another party?

Crescent ( ) posted Tue, 02 December 2003 at 10:43 PM

Contact sales@daz3d.com and explain what happened to your newsletter and they should provide you with a new link. They're really good about that sort of thing. Cheers!

kayarnad ( ) posted Wed, 03 December 2003 at 12:01 AM

thanks, I'll do that!

Mec4D ( ) posted Thu, 04 December 2003 at 6:15 AM

kayarnad, the links works as well in the news letter, just right click on the link and "save as" I checked right now. Cath
