Hi, This is a good site to visit and take a look a the kind of artwork Shade can produce. e frontier will be placing more images into this gallery over the week so the variety of art can be seen. http://shade.e-frontier.co.jp/en/index.html Kind regards, Katherine

So is it true that e-frontier has bought Curious Labs? If so, what are the implications for Poser?

I most say looking at the pictures that I'm impressed with Shade's photo-realism.

Where are the people? It would be nice to see how the texture render, no?

I must remember to remember what it was I had to remember.

Hi Nickedshield, e frontier will be posting more images to look at over the week so check back for some people images. Kind regards, Katherine

Is it real or is it 3D? No, its Shade! I could not believe thoes images, I had to look twice at several images to tell it wasn't a photo.

Dizzie ( ) posted Thu, 04 December 2003 at 9:09 PM

I couldn't believe them either! So who's gonna try the Shade 6 Demo first? http://shade.e-frontier.co.jp/en/demo/demoinfo6.html

My question is will this have an impact on the function of poser? I remember CL teaming up with Caligari for a Truespace partnership, thus leading me to think that there would be a way to have the progams better work with eachother. Alas, all it did was offer a price discount.

I could not believe thoes images, I had to look twice at several images to tell it wasn't a photo.<< Just remember, those are images made by perhaps the best Shade users around. It's a bit like seeing a Bryce render by Hobbit and saying "look what Bryce can do!". The few Bryce renders I made never looked like his. ;) SnowS

So Shade doesn't have the ever elusive "make art" button either huh? ;-) Amazing work! Some very talented people there!

Well, I downloaded the demo... I don't much like the look of the interface :( There's a good Enlish tutorial included though, so I expect I'll be playing for the next few days. One problem: it doesn't import .obj file (at least out of the box - maybe there's a plugin somewhere)...

I'm going to try the V6 demo over the weekend, too. The first Shade V7 version (the really light one) is being release on the 19th. I'm going to try and buy it since this is the version they say will be sold internationally. I think the demo will bring in dxf files.

i bought shade years ago after seeing some great renderings made with it and it was very sobering and disappointing. karen is right, the interface just killed all the (possible) fun. it is so unergonomical and unorthodox that i just didn't want to remember just which modifyer key goes with what action. sadly, as i see, the interface hasn't changed much.

mikeberg ( ) posted Fri, 05 December 2003 at 9:02 AM

If you want to see marvellous images of Shade, go see Hopper's gallery. It's 100% Shade.

And here is Hopper's site: http://www.c3-net.ne.jp/~hobbyhop/index.htm

Interface is very important. I have no time to "reorient" myself to a drastically different approach to creating images. Maybe they're going to adapt the Poser interface to the Shade program? Looking at that interface: it reminds me of Quark Xpress....a wonderful program that is sort of a standard in the print industry....but the interface is totally alien.

Dave-So ( ) posted Fri, 05 December 2003 at 2:59 PM

what's interesting, folks that have grown with the MC tools/Kai Krause/GUI interface design love that form... Those that are used to Windows style interfacing prefer that... Useability is key to me...I can't stand interfaces that rquire much numerical input, pull down/hot key selects, etc...

Indeed Shade's interface was designed for Japenese's way of thinking, same way they read & write. Version 7(The International one) should have a more "Westernized" look to it. :-) What i really Love about this app are it's very well implemented tools for Poly modeling. A mix of C4D & MAX's best features. So Great renderer(& Fast) & excellent modeling tools. Took me about a week to get used to it's "Ergonomics"... And you can customize the "Keyboard Shorts" to better fit your style. I'm just surprise it took them this long to Make this GEM Available to the rest of the world... Marco
