Eric ( a geologist/muscian) wrote the orignal code (for grins) based on the academic work of Ken Musgrave (Mojoworld). Kia Krause and John Wilczak talked him into releasing it as Bryce. When Eric left MetaTools he made a deal with Kia to licenese his code with the provision he wouldn't release a Bryce-like program while Bryce was still around. When Corel, in their infinite wisdom, dumped the Mac version, it left Eric free to release this Mac only app. There's been some hints that now Corel/Vector is now trying to sue Eric. Isn't Corporate life fun? Best; Dan
After all these years of rumors and hope the "biological father" of bryce finally returns from the nether and offers another big button Kia krause styled one trick pony!!! NO object /figure import= USELESS TO ME :-( Ill stick with my free terragen for lonely outdoor scene's that tell no story.!!! and use my Bryce5 for importing my original 3D models to render outdoor scenes
It is my understanding that Eric Wenger's new software is nothing like Bryce. . . .if I recall. . . EW described Bryce as a small stage polygon based application. His new app isn't polygon based so viewer distance doen't play a part in texture distortion. . . . . details are maintained throughout all ranges of distance. . . . .from micro to macro. I would guess that the code and algorithms used in this app are not related to those in Bryce by a long shot. . . . . Long live Sir Eric of the Mac Clan!! : )
Voyager is nothing like Bryce - Corel/Vector have no possible basis to sue him on. When I beta tested bryce all those years there is something very important I learned about Eric's original deal with HSC when he first created Bryce: the only thing HSC/Meta/Corel/Vector owns is the Kai UI that makes Bryce what it is. Eric is free to write his own code (he did) and create whatever he wants as long as he doesn't use that UI (he didn't). End of story. Voyager uses a few built-in planets and mostly uses Artmatic systems as input to planet creation (again nothing like Bryce). This is a 1.0 product and Bryce didn't support object import until version 2 and even then it was only DXF objects. I seriously doubt if Corel/Vector give a shit about this. Eric's company is very tiny and only serves the Mac community. As I recall Corel turned their back on the Mac community so they have no leg to stand on. Scott
Drac. . . . A Mac Addict I am no more. . . . Although my original orientation is the Mac, my recent interest in game design and development has prompted me to invest in a PC (really no support for the Mac in this field). . . . . I guess now I can be considered as biplatformal. : ) I have no problem with EW's new app only creating landscapes. . . . I have always enjoyed creating or viewing landscapes as a means of escape. . . . a favorite quote: "And the people went there and admired the high mountains, the wide wastes of the sea and mighty downward rushing streams, and the ocean, and the course of the stars, and forgot themselves."
Catlin, As a Mac user I know how you feel. I can't count how many times I have said, too bad they don't make that on a Mac. It is rare to find Mac Only software these days. Of course having a PC, I can choose whatever platform I want to run the software on. ArtMatic, Voyager, and anything made by U and I software, are the kind of apps that almost make it worth it to buy a mac just for being able to use them. Heck I have a few older macs (from a 7600 120 to PowerMac 9500-200) that would run them well I would sell to someone, dirt cheap, wanting to run these programs!
Oooh! G5, mmmm computers... ;-) Even though I have the latest greatest PC P4 3.2 Ghz, I want a duel G5 as my Mac is very dated (dual G4 450). Well, I promised myself I would wait until Apple made a revision as the G5 is cutting edge technology which is sure to have some glitches (and I have read that it does indeed). The next revision should fix these, and introduce cheaper prices. -Paul

Hi all Brycers, I just got an email from U&I software about the release of Artmatic Voyager. I Quote: "ArtMatic Voyager is a new Eric Wenger creation that creates stunning photo-realistic landscapes from ArtMatic systems (and its own built-in planet definitions)" Wasn't Eric Wenger part of the Bryce team? Anyways this looks really cool, although different from Bryce... It is Mac only, sorry PC users... I have ArtMatic Pro and it is a fun program. I have no doubt that Voyager will be equally as fun. Check it out. Regards, Paul
