Poser - OFFICIAL F.A.Q (Last Updated: 2024 Nov 26 1:43 pm)
it sounds like your computer is next to the bare essentials....so if you have tried everything and the problem is still there, then THERE IS ONE SOLUTION THAT IS GUARAnTEED TO WORK 100% OF THE TIME-----reformat your comp....and since it doesnt have any other progs like internet, MS Office Aps, etc, and only graphics progs it'll be an easy reinstall.... of course do this only if you have your original OS, Drivers, graphics, etc. CDs....Make sure you got all of them on CD!!!!
Well I can still run my other 3d apps if necessary (I've been using TS5.2 all week). The only other apps I have on it are Poser or TS related such as Luuv, TheTailor,UVMapper etc. If I can't find another solution then yes, I'll have to resort to a total rebuild, but I'd still like to know what's happening, cos I don't want to do this every few month
Well you learn something every day! Bobbie, I had to reinstall my printer a couple of days back, but it wasn't attached to my 3D machine (I print across the network if necessary). Still, I deleted the driver, reinstalled the (network) printer and hey-presto, everything's hunkey dorey again. Thanks for the advice, I'd never have worked that one out in a thousand years! Dogsbody
AHA, so you do have a network! We were networked, and my wife had the printer hooked to her computer. I could not use Poser, or the other programs, if my wife's computer was turned off. Now we're not networked, and I have two printers! The printer itself does not need to be turned on. But the programs need to be able to find the printer port, or something like that. Who knows why the programs aren't polite enough to say: "I can't work unless I can find your printer!"
There is something in Poser, Adobe PhotoShop, MS Word and (I think) MGI PhotoSuite 4. The "something" tells the programs to look for the printer or port. If the port/printer is not found, the programs won't work. You do not get a message that says exactly what is wrong. I think PhotoShop says "there is an error.....blah."

Hmm. I've had P5 installed on my 'dedicated' PC since it was delivered at the beginning of the year. This PC only runs graphic apps, nothing in the background, no internet, no email, nothing beyond CD burner and graphics drivers loaded. It's an AMD 1.6Ghz under W2K. A while back I noticed that it was sometimes reluctant to load up saved scenes and would go into a sulk. Today, I've tried to load it up and it just doesn't happen. If you look carefully you can see a window load up and then it just disappears. I've tried reapplying SP3, I've tried moving my runtime elsewhere and reloading P5 from scratch, still the same result. I don't think that I've done anything out of the ordinary since last time I used Poser, no new software or anything. Anyone any ideas? Ta Dogsbody.
