Another wip...all textures DTE, and not very good. The model was made in wings, has a lot more detail than you can see in this image...and i'm not sure i like the whole camo thing...but i didn't know what else to do with it. Comments, critiques, and most of all.... HELP.

Well, the sand is cool, but I like orange myself. I live overseas in a country that is almost completely sand, so I do have these weird preferences. And why does it look solid instead of a lot of grains? I think the pod could use a color change, but I'm not sure what you could use...... Maybe a solid color instead of streaks.... unless you can get the streaks to blend together (don't ask me how. Or you could make it some kind of dark metal. That'd look cool. Other than that, the only thing I can think of to add is a nice big worm. :-)

I think the image definetly needs more. I would suggest maybe a closeup of the model, flying high above the desert with some depth of feild to blur out the background but I don't think the model itself is detailed enough for such a picture. I think you might want to consider recomposing this piece to better showoff your modeling job, maybe a small fighter wing of the pods? And a few interest points either on the ground or in the sky, to relieve the monotony of the sand. I hope this isn't too harsh critism, if so please disregard, just trying to be helpful; good luck.

actually... the cammo thing is quite cool. keep it. my suggestion though would be to make the model a bit more straight-edged. you'll be amazed at how cool that cammo thing looks like then. as for the sand, yeah, you need much more detail and some wind perhaps. good start though

Ooh, yes. Depth of field and a little wind would do wonders. (I still promote orange sand though.) I'll send you one of my darker metals as soon as I get home, it's only 10:30 am here.

Hey I wanna see more of that space ship. Zoom in please! Don't be afraid to use a light dome for the render.

turn on Soft Shadows on the sun light, and add another layer of procedural to the sand material, one with additional bump.. perhaps a wavy sort of material. That should give you some ripples in the sand from wind.. APart from that.. the simplicity of this image is what does it for me :) Aside from further detail, it has a good feel. Really makes me feel like I am looking at a solitary craft in the middle of one HUGE range of dunes. Scott

The camo is cool, but the model looks too clean, deserts are dusty!!!. Also could do with some contrails or similar behind, and some dust lifting fron the sand due to the ground effect, also consider some motion blur and maybe some engine heat haze.

So...some of the advice taken, just a quick little adjustment, didn't get into anything too complex...if i'm gonna have orange sand, i'll need to work on it a little more, i'm not at all happy with results so far...the new bump on the texture...well...that needs a lot of work too. I think i'm gonna have to go to good old Photoshop to get the look i want for the ship..

looks like I'm in company..possibly it's smoothing, for the loss of detail..I asked about this recently in the forum, got some good feedback, ya might want to check it out..;) Some vents or intakes could help, possibly even some signeage (I had one of those 'duh!' moments recently, when I found that Wings can use whatever fonts you have loaded, not just Arial..;) Expect some alien script in the future..;) looking good. As close as it is to the ground, you might want to add some turbulence with a cloud mat, or something to the effect..

I wish I'd said that.. The Staircase Wit
