Subject: Where can I find FREE Poser 4 skin textures that look GOOD?

dog_kicker ( ) posted Fri, 12 December 2003 at 11:46 AM · edited Wed, 04 December 2024 at 4:20 PM

I'm in search of FREE skin textures that look as real and hi-res as they can. I'm talking true detail in every area... head to toe, yes, even the toes need detail. So, anybody here know where I can find one for free? I've searched all over yahoo and found nothing. Samething with hair, where can I find real looking female har for free? Oh yeah, I should mention that I'm only looking fo rfemale skins and hair, LOL. Like I said, every detail is important, and I'm desperate... I need them. I'm broke, so I can affored the good looking ones that I did see, heck, I don't even have the Victoria model. But if it isn;t to much to ask... perhaps somebody can e-mail them to me. If you could do that, then let me know and I'll post my e-mail here. Thanks!

I mean e-mail some of the really good textures. I searched the free section, but they don't seem as good as the things I've seen that cost money... I'm a broke 16 year old trying to learn 3d-art... can't affored much. Thanks for replying anyways...

well first you need to tell us what model you need the textures for :)

First off...you cannot ask for textures and the like to be sent to you. Unless the sender is the original creator, you are violating Renderosity's policy on illegal distribution (warze). You'll get yourself and the sender in trouble. Im not a moderator or anything like that hereIm just trying to point something out to you, that you (being new), dont really realize what your asking. Anyway to help you out.. At the link I have given.you can DL the free P4 woman that has been remapped to use the textures for the Vicky 1&2 models. Do that, and its now a new ballgame for you, as there are a lot of very detailed, high rez textures for Vicky that you can DL for free. For hair go to DigitalBabes,(you find the link down in the lower left of this screen in WebRings)..that is some of the best hair you can find (and once againfree). Have fun,SWAMP

Oh,and while you'll find a lot of good textures here in freestuff...the textures, you'll find at this link are the best that can be found for free...(they are for Vicky,so you need that remapped P4,first). SWAMP

If you want something done right, do it yourself. :O) Free stuff is loaded with "photoreal" textures that look like crap. The best thing to do is develop some photomanipping skills and make your own. I trashed all my homemade P4 textures when I stepped up to P5, but it's not that difficult to make them.

Sorry Swamp. My response was a little vague. What I meant to say was tell us what model so we can lead you in the right direction AprilSH has a remapped P4 woman. download her and hit the free stuff again and you will find some beautiful V2 textures. Hope this helps:)

kayjay,Nothing to be sorry for at all....I was responding before your reply, but it took me a long time to find my link. (The link you gave was the one I was looking for...same product). SWAMP

"Free stuff is loaded with "photoreal" textures that look like crap"? Good grief, do we always have to trash anything that we don't care for around here? : Dog_kicker, you're obviously not going to get an extremely high-resolution texture with that much detail for free. I have textures in Free Stuff here that are moderately detailed (Odyssey and Vickybuster), and there are many others if you look. Ecstacy makes good tattooed ones if you need those, and they're here in Free Stuff too. SWAMP is right about the hair, Kozaburo's site has excellent free hair models and is easy to navigate. Take care. SnowS

Don't claim something is photoreal that isn't. I'll trash dihonesty any time I come across it.

Wow, thank you everybody who responded :-D I'll have to check this all out! And sorry for asking something I shouldn't, won't happen again. Thanks all!

SnowSultan, don't sell your Odyssey short. Still one of my favorite Vic textures. Look in my gallery, "Sweet and Innocent," small gallery, easy to find. I think she has great detail. I did the render in POV-Ray.

SnowSultan ( ) posted Fri, 12 December 2003 at 6:06 PM

Fls13, I agree that few textures that say they're photorealistic ARE in fact photorealistic, but I think it would have been nice to just say "photorealistic textures that aren't really so photorealistic" or something to that effect instead of calling them all crap. Agh, saying photorealistic too much...anyway, you get my idea. Dog_kicker, be sure to check Runtime DNA too(www.runtimedna.com) for good lights and utility poses (the skin shading poses are really nice for expanding your texture tones.). LOL Joey!! And thank you Beryld, I'm glad people are still using Odyssey with all the other great textures out there. I'll check your gallery shortly. :) SnowS

SnowSultan, can you provide me with a link to that page? I can't seem to find Odyssey and Vickybuster... Thanks :-)

Lyrra ( ) posted Fri, 12 December 2003 at 7:54 PM

fls13 - just mind your manners while "trashing" since the mods here have the Big Pointy Stick of Authority ahem Joey - "brings a tear to your eye" indeed it does ... good one grin Dog kicker - as for the original question look for a site called "Posette's Paradise" and also "happyworldland". Snowsultan's vickybuster texture is also excellent. For hair don't go any further than DigitalBabes for Kozaboros excellent hairs. and lastly, AprilYsh's remap shoul allow you to take advantage of the freebie skins at Mec4D. Catherina retired some of her older products, inlcluding some vicky skins. So have fun! Lyrra the Tired

http://www.renderosity.com/viewed.ez?galleryid=353421&Start=1&Artist=fls13&ByArtist=Yes This will give anyone interested an idea of how photoreal textures can be put together and how they look while being developed. I thought it looked kind of cool and posted it awhile back.

Here's the link to my free stuff. Odyssey (for Victoria 1 and 2) and Vickybuster (for the P4 Female) should be on the second page. Thanks! SnowS

Interesting image, fls13. I think that the term "photorealistic," like "hi-res" is a term so fraught with subjective judgements that it's hard to define. As the Supreme Court justice said about pornography, "I know it when I see it."

fls13 ( ) posted Fri, 12 December 2003 at 8:44 PM

Well, call me crazy, but I think when the term "photorealistic" is applied to a texture, there should be some kind of photo manipulation involved in the production of the texture. I've downloaded a number of freebie textures that claimed to be so, and they obviously were not, so I can appreciate where dog kicker was coming from when he started this thread.

Axe_Gaijin ( ) posted Fri, 12 December 2003 at 10:34 PM

But then again as my Mama always told me, when you get something for free, you get excatly what you paid for it. ;)

Or you do your own thing on top BUT FOR GOD'S SAKE DON'T SELL IT!!!

Actually, after a brief Google search, I could only find one real attempt at defining photorealism (see link). I also came across the term "synthetic photorealism" which reminded me that a lot of effects, especially in high-end programs may rely on shaders and other techniques that are completely computer generated and don't rely on photos at all to produce a "realistic" rendering. I agree with your basic premise that, in the Poser world at least, the term usually implies a texture produced from high resolution photographs of a model. I think though that using the definition - indistinguishable from a photograph of a real person/object, that is not necessarily the case. Presumably, a talented artist working with the right rendering tools could produce such an image without using a single photograph as source material. Of course, by that definition, very little produced by Poser or any system really meets the criterion. A few, like Final Fantasy certainly are impressive and Catharina's or SteffyZZ's texture maps are probably as close as I've seen in Poser.

Joey, Did you really mean to put these two statements so close to each other in the same thread? All we need now is for someone to instruct him in use of the camera. ;^) (At age 16, I don't think we should be instructing him in how to contact the models.) "... and another fledgling pornographer leaves the nest. You raise them your very best, and now all you can do is hope they'll turn out OK..." "Or you do your own thing on top BUT FOR GOD'S SAKE DON'T SELL IT!!!"
