Well I was unable to get something in for the Christmas Project on time so I'm offering my Open Chapel prop set for free to everyone. It will be in the FreeStuff Section soon but is available at:

http://www.ladydawg.org/poser2/zips/OpenChap.zip

for anyone who wants to snag it early :)

Enjoy and I hope I'm getting it to everyone in time for some Christmas renders!

This is just my way of saying thanks to all of you for your friendship and support of my work. I wish you all a very happy & safe holiday season :)

Merry Christmas & a Happy New Year :)

===============
The Open Chapel is a beautifully detailed open air structure complete with grounds, cherry tree, altar candle and backdrop prop with four sky images. The model features ornamental gold trim and richly detailed marble surfaces as well as a complete environment for your renders.

The Open Chapel comes with everything you'll need to create an outdoor chapel scene including these props:

  • The chapel structure itself with changeable stained glass window texture.
  • An altar candle with holder.
  • A terrain prop with detailed grass texture.
  • A detailed cherry tree model.
  • A curved panoramic backdrop to host background sky images.
  • Four beautiful background sky images (1728x1000) pixels nominal.

Everything comes as Poser Ready props that can be loaded from the sidebar menu or for even easier use - just load the included PZ3 file which has all of the props loaded with a default lighting and camera scheme.

The Open Chapel prop also includes 6 camera presets & 2 light presets for easy scene creation.

All of the prop's elements are completely modular and can be used separately or with other sets for maximum use and enjoyment.

Also, as always, send a big virtual Hugz & Kiss to Ladydawg for hosting this file as well as my other FreeStuff. Without her kindness and generosity I don't know how I'd get these files to you :)

Thanks so much Dee and a special holiday greetings to you :)

hi rick, Thanks for your excellent prop. I have to admit that the real reason I downloaded it was that I was consumed with curiosity to see your background prop, because I just finished making 2 of them for one of my products (a room). As it turns out, we've both used pretty much the same design. I suppose there are only a limited number of ways to do this. Here's a pic of mine + room, and yours added in. Um... a slight difference in size. LOL. mac

Richabri ( ) posted Sat, 13 December 2003 at 1:07 PM

You're all very welcome and I hope the Open Chapel gives you much fun and many renders :)

mac - oh that's very true! Other than using a complete hemisphere or something I couldn't think of any other way of doing it myself. Mine had to be larger because this is an outdoor prop and had to provide a view larger than you'd get through a window :)

I was considering experimenting with a layered background prop like I used for my Poser Studio. The idea would be to put forground elements like clouds and such on a front layer and the rest of the background on a back layer. I've had trouble with the way Poser handles transparencies and never did get back to it though. Just a thought :)

Wow - it's beautiful! THank you! And happy holidays to you too!

maclean ( ) posted Sat, 13 December 2003 at 2:41 PM

rick, It's interesting to hear your side of this. I messed around with backgrounds for a long time, and tried every shape imaginable, including a dome and a huge cylinder that went right round the room. Of course, the real problem is that you need a shape you can put a picture on, otherwise it's not practical. Here's another coincidence. I was recently trying to make a fire with flames, and came to the same conclusion you did. I made a prop with 3 flat 'flame' layers and added a transmap to each one to get the depth I wanted. Haven't finished it yet though. I'm still experimenting. cheers mac

thank you very much! To both of you re the fire props: try multiple planes angled slightly to each other and of variable size, as well.

"I've had some luck using the spherical & polar co-ordinate filters in Photoshop to map outdoor scenes to an inverted sphere" How did you do that if I may ask? How did you get the inverted sphere specifically?
