Subject: Screen Fix

Sealynx ( ) posted Fri, 12 December 2003 at 9:25 PM · edited Wed, 15 January 2025 at 2:24 AM

I know this has happened before but I can't remember how I fixed it. Suddenly the figure display window has shifted completely off into the upper left corner. There is just enough of it to expand it but I can't grab the top bar in order to move it back to where it is supposed to me. What is the fix...I think it was a key combination. Thanks, S

This is something of a Poser initiation rite. All newbies chant after me:-

  • Woe unto me for I am a newbie.

No I can't hear you .... again...- Woe unto me for I am a newbie

Much better ... ok with me ....- My window it doth disappear

  • It hides from me because I am unworthy
  • Lo I will beseech the General who dwells behind the Edit menu
  • General, General Preferences I envoke thy name. Come to the aid of thy humble servant I beseech thee.

After much fasting and penance behold a window will open unto thee and ye shall be called upon to make a choice. Search thy soul and choose wisely, listen to thy heart, hear the whispering words ..... "Launch to Factory State" ..... "Launch to Factory State" ...."Use Factory State" ...."Use Factory State". Only the purest of heart will hear. Listen well, then with all thy might click the OK.

Now oh searcher after the eternal realm of Poser nevada a test of faith...... CLOSE POSER!

The testing is over, the time of harvest is come, open Poser again. And behold arrayed before you is a new screen fresh as a new born day. Your trial is over ... you are no longer a newbie. Welcome to the clan of Poser

Canny clan members will at this stage rearrange their screens the way they like them and click on one of the UI memory dots. This because the General is known to test even the faithful by stealing their window from time to time.

Very good advice, O Wise PhilC. Makes it so much easier to take when expressed your way ;) LOL

PhilC is absolutely right here :) ... but what you may have been trying to remember, is a general tip which is applicable to Windows whenever a window is dragged out of reach on the desktop? I'm sure most PC users have struggled with this problem on occasions. All you need to do is press ALT + SPACEBAR. You should then see a dialogue list, which you can navigate with just the cursor keys, and Return button. Select Move from the list, and then press Return. The cursor should change to a diamond shape, and the cursor keys will allow you to move your window back into view.

Wonderfully put PhilC and an excellent fix I'd forgotten. I humbly bow before you. And yes Caulbox that is what I have been looking for, and still had not found after having created every kind of screen chaos achieveable through key combinations. Perhaps I should have written them down because I'm sure I stumbled across an Easter Egg or two. I an having both replies converted to stone obelisks which will forever stand on eiher side of my computer. I am also copying them to word pad so I won't lose them again! Many Blessings on you both and best wishes for the Holiday Season. S

Thank you - Happy Christmas to you too, and to everyone in the world.

While this topic is at hand, I've experienced the same problem, except I've lost the Parameter Dials box. I've tried the Launch To Factory State and Use Factory state options, but the box still remains missing. Its very odd, I've got it checked to display under the "Windows" menu, but it just ain't there. Is there any other way to retrieve a lost window? Can't you open a certain document in a word program and adjust its coordinates?

You seem to be smoking strange things these days Phil... LOL !

Sealynx ( ) posted Sat, 13 December 2003 at 4:39 PM

Theonering, I had this happen before on several occasions but I don't think the cause is always the same. I have cured it once by simply toggling back and forth between the Setup and Poser room tabs. Sometimes it helps to uncheck show box then restart with use previous state checked. On restart check the box and see if it appears. Hope it works! S

(sorry about the last link - I included my session ID) It may be connected with the screen resolution you're using?
