Subject: Question about RTEncoder

caulbox ( ) posted Sat, 20 December 2003 at 12:26 PM ยท edited Thu, 25 July 2024 at 8:18 AM

I'm not a member at Poser Pros. Fortunately, I got hold of RTEncoder from the direct download link at the old DAZ FAQ site HERE. However, the link now seems to have been removed from the DAZ site (or I can't find it anymore?). Is there a reason why I need to be a member at Poser Pros in order to download a file that I would have thought DAZ would have wanted to be readily available for download? I'm acquainted with OBJaction Mover, and wondering if RTEncoder is only applicable to Poser Pros stuff?

Confused...

RTEncoder is written by one of the partners at PP, so that's why it is there only. The main reason it isn't used more widely is that, as far as I know, Mac users can't join the fun. It does have the advantage, unlike OBJAction Mover, that it can be used for commercial products.

Hi caulbox. You can also get RTEncoder from Renderosity's Freestuff as well. But, I'll save you the trouble of searching and post a direct link. :) RTEncoder is applicable to any merchant who will allow it's use for redistribution of their products. Another merchant creates a deriviative work of the original, and uses the original product as a "key". This "key" is required to decode the derivative product. And yes, DAZ has approved it's use with their products, and helped with the original beta testing. If you have any problems or questions, just let me know. :) Russell

Thanks for the info, Russell. I'd actually searched many times before on Renderosity, but couldn't find the program? I see it now does appear in a search as well. Many thanks.

I happen to like RTEncoder. It can encrypt any file type, not just .obj meshes. And it can double-encrypt files if you're distributing something that requires multiple products (as was the case with my Millennium Catwoman).

I'd love to see a Mac version of the utility, also, and I don't even have a Mac.
