Subject: A Super-Posette

Poor old Posette doesn't get much press these days. I've been thinking about doing her for this years Christmas present, a revised and updated Posette. Anyway, I plan to mostly fix her legs, which I think are awful (including moving the kness up), remove the little wings under her arms and do some general cleaning up. I notice a lot of her joint parameters can be improved too, as some don't even use fall-off. I'll probably have both a high-res version (about 50K polygons) and a low res version, the hires will only take head morphs, the low res will take all Posette morphs. One thing I'm unsure about is her feet, I could do them a couple of ways, make them nicer (she sort of has big feet, I notice, and I'd like to shape them for shoes with tight toes, at least), possable I could give her full "high heel" feet like my Supermodel series. What do you think? Anyway, I'm thinking of minimal changes to the body, so at least some Posette clothing will fit, for the same reason not adding any Vickie parts, like buttocks (which I'm not so sure are all thet necessary anyway, I think she mostly needs better joint setup.) Existing texture maps will still work, of course. Working name is "Posette 2003", she is NOT going to be 'Supermodel Posette", as I'm not planning on major body modifications, other than the legs (and maybe feet). She also might get some free clothing too, as might Supermodel Lori, we'll just have to see what will be under the tree. Objaction is going to be required, of course, does Poser 5 come with a Posette?

HIgh heel feet-- vote for high heel feet. If she's barefoot she can walk tippy toe.:)) Emily

atthisstage ( ) posted Sat, 14 December 2002 at 11:30 AM

Hey, Jim, equal time here for the Dork, huh??? :) He could use a little help too, bud!

dialyn ( ) posted Sat, 14 December 2002 at 11:31 AM

Yes, Poser 5 comes with a Posette.

c1rcle ( ) posted Sat, 14 December 2002 at 11:33 AM

Jim I like the idea of an updated/improved posette, poser5 does indeed include posette in it's cast list :)

lululee ( ) posted Sat, 14 December 2002 at 11:51 AM

That would be great Jim. Some of the bat clothes work really well on Posette. I definitely vote for the leg and high heel improvment. The first Poser purchase I ever made was your Night Life shoe pack. I thought my first model was so kool. So what if she was neked. She had a whole wardrobe of the most awesome shoes. Humm. Actually you are at the cause of this whole Poser addiction I've aquired. Your products and artistry are amazing!

jobcontrol ( ) posted Sat, 14 December 2002 at 11:58 AM

Regarding High Heel feet: is it possible to morph them back to normal? I really like the idea of an improved Posette, as I find her face very attractive. But another cat walk model wouldn't improve the situation for adventures and wild life situations :-) Willy

Jim Burton ( ) posted Sat, 14 December 2002 at 12:13 PM

Yeah, the high-heel feet can bend to flatfoot, HFV has problems because she is made by morphs, but Supermodel Vickie bends pretty well. Plus I do joint parameters better now then when I made SMV! I sorta like the H-H feet because I actually model all my heels like that, on regular Vickie I sorta have to do special tricks to get them on, and they don't look right until she gets up on her tip-toes. I also like to see all the girls in heels all the time, I'm so sexist! Ad to the Dork, Gee, maybe next Christmas!

mikes ( ) posted Sat, 14 December 2002 at 12:48 PM

Long Live Posette! (By Christmas present do you mean she will be a gift (free)?) In your copious free time, could you round all the flat spots she seems to have (buttocks side and rear, breast sides, etc)?

atthisstage ( ) posted Sat, 14 December 2002 at 1:12 PM

Ad to the Dork, Gee, maybe next Christmas! That's what my parents said every year I asked for a new saddle. Didn't work then either..... :)

jobcontrol ( ) posted Sat, 14 December 2002 at 2:47 PM

Jim, I like girls with H-H too, but not so much in a jungle or any other more, um, like wild place. Under water, in free space - in comics ok. But not in my bed!!!

Tashar59 ( ) posted Sat, 14 December 2002 at 3:50 PM

The main reason I don't use posette are the joints, to much post to fix her. I do like the look of her, so any improvement would be great. Tashar59

Oh yeah, she be free! ;-) I've already fixed some of the flat spots in her breasts and butt, I'll have to do over her again. This is first cut, nothing done on her joint parameters, but the knees are about where they will wind up.

queri ( ) posted Sat, 14 December 2002 at 4:52 PM

Breasts already look good-- hate those square tits. Emily

PabloS ( ) posted Sat, 14 December 2002 at 6:04 PM

Whoa! Looks like you're fixing just about everything that made me move to V! This is great Jim.

mikes ( ) posted Sat, 14 December 2002 at 8:08 PM

Can't wait! btw, saw something several days ago about new morphs for the Hollywood hair. Are those available yet?

neurocyber ( ) posted Sat, 14 December 2002 at 8:14 PM

Jim Burton I love you man!!!! That is a awesome thing to do! I hope you do that little joint idea thingy with the knees that you showed off a while ago. :)

hauksdottir ( ) posted Sat, 14 December 2002 at 9:07 PM

No more high heeled feet! I'm tired of tippy-toed pictures, too... especially in places/situations where contact with the ground is desirable. Real women don't walk like that. A few supermodels on a catwalk strut and make their turn for the camera in 5" heels but nobody else. Improvements in Posette's legs and joints will be useful. She already has a prettier face than Vicky. But I must ask you to also leave her feet alone. If she is free that would be delightful, you are generous and talented, but there are so many tippy-toed models out there... and this is one of the few flat-footed ones. Carolly

Opps, too late, she already has high-heel feet, sorry! I'll include a pose to make her stand flat foot though, I did the opposite for my latest Vicky set (which should be up next Friday). You just apply the pose after any other pose you use. I think the legs are now a tad too thin from mid-thigh down, I'll fix that, her feet might be too small now, too (make a BOLD adjustment they taught us in the Artillery, then come back!) This is the standard res version, next to the regular Posette. Got most of the above the knee lumps out of her legs too, I hate them damn lumps! She also has IK turned off and a proper figure name, not "Figure 1"! The Hollywood Hair update is all done, I just haven't Zipped it up yet. The two main changes are the longer hair is now properly conforming and I set all the colors up in MATs, like are all the rage now. I also added all the morphs I already offered and made a couple more for the longer hair.

narcissus ( ) posted Sat, 14 December 2002 at 10:31 PM

Her legs&breasts look realy nice. You know everything about great legs shape.Supermodel Lory has the most beautiful legs ever,I use her a lot. Can't wait to see this done. pitklad

scupper ( ) posted Sat, 14 December 2002 at 11:09 PM

Posette is gorgeous compared to Judy. But I understand Judy was a rush job with like a week of prep or something, so it's understandable.

hauksdottir ( ) posted Sun, 15 December 2002 at 5:16 AM

I like her hips more, and I'm glad that you got rid of that fritzin' IK. Her calves, ankles, and feet are too small though. Posette has better calves, and part of the reason men like high heels is that they bulk-up the calves. They also make the butt stick out which is murder on our backs and posture. :sigh: (I do have a closet full of high heeled shoes, but I will no longer wear them daily.) Um, what happened to her eyes? She looks angry. Can you fix her hands while you are tweaking? Diamond-set hands are lovelier than square-set. None of the models that I have worked with have elegant, tapering hands. Hmm... how to get you an example...

hauksdottir ( ) posted Sun, 15 December 2002 at 10:04 AM

file_36068.jpg

OK, I've scanned my own hands. These aren't the prettiest hands in the world... in my 52 years I've been a studio potter and a Yosemite climber, and I still garden without gloves... so ignore the skin and nails and look at the bones. The bones are elegant. I can't make a decent fist, and square-set hands may be stronger, but they slip easily through sleeves and narrow places yet make a nice wide spread for playing basketball or piano. Classical painters show hands like these, so it would be really great if at least one of our models had them. Carolly

This is probably about it for the mesh, gotta do the joint parameters now. The breasts were sorta getting away from me, but I got them back under control. ;-) I did thin out the hands some, and pulled out the fingernails a little. Thinning the fingers is really what she needs, maybe I'll go back and do a little more there. I did that on SMV. I also thinned the forearms and shoulders, and moved the centers out a tad on the shoulders, which widens the top of the torso when she puts her arms down, she is less pinch-chested now (she had exactly the reverse of the problem Vickie I had when she first came out). All in all I wound up doing more than I thought I was going to, once I get started it is hard to stop. I pretty much moved everything around, other than her head, but she still is the Posette.

Momcat ( ) posted Sun, 15 December 2002 at 12:47 PM

With all this adjusting of body shape and joint parameters; what will she be able to wear? Will she still take the same textures? Will any of the morphs already created for her still work, or will we have to create new ones?

Jim Burton ( ) posted Mon, 16 December 2002 at 12:09 PM

file_36070.jpg

I don't know, good question. Oroginally I wan't going to do as much, so she could then wear Posett clothing, but then she wouldn't be as good, either. No pain, no gain, I guess. ;-) She will take all Posette textures, in any case. Here is a pic of how her hands finished, compared to the stock hands.

And her she stands with one shoe on, demonstrating she can go barefoot. She borrowed Hi-Fashion Vickie's shoes, or rather one of 'em.

Momcat ( ) posted Mon, 16 December 2002 at 1:00 PM

Ooh! Nice gams! >^_~ How about those thigh lumps? Gone?

DaveK ( ) posted Mon, 16 December 2002 at 10:02 PM

Too Cool!!! I've always liked Posette and I think what you've done looks greate.

hauksdottir ( ) posted Tue, 17 December 2002 at 12:44 AM

The hands are still square-set, but those fingers are a lot nicer. I'm glad that she can go flat-footed (much better for walking on the beach and through snow... even elves don't tippy-toe on the white stuff). Looking forward to her! Carolly

Jim Burton ( ) posted Tue, 17 December 2002 at 9:43 AM

I got as much of the thigh lumps out as I could, as I hate 'em! I also made the actual knees bulge out a little mode, as the Posetee doesn't have much there. I'm having a lot of trouble with the side-side falloff on the thighs, I now know why Vickie has a buttocks part! And here I always thought it was for the bend! My current thinking is I'll put out the standard res version (the one existing morphs will work with) with stock groupings, and on the high-res version I'll recut her with buttocks, maybe even add my "secret" double knees and whatnot, as morphs (other than the head) aren't going to work anyway. I'll try and make it so they both can wear the same shoes, at least.

Jim Burton ( ) posted Tue, 17 December 2002 at 9:44 AM

"bulge out a litle MORE" that should read!

Momcat ( ) posted Tue, 17 December 2002 at 9:55 AM

That'd be awsome. As for clothing...for stills at least; if you pose your figure, save the pose, load the clothing (whatever clothing), and change the parent of the clothing to "Universe"; you can then apply the same pose to the clothing and position it. Don't try it without changing the parent of the clothing figure though or really screwy stuff happens.

O.K., if you have been following the thread you get to download the file, as I'm not going to put her in Free Stuff. This is the standard-res version, all done. She will take all Posette textures and morphs, I removed the "hero" ones, as she wasn't feeling too heroic today, and it makes the file smaller. You can think of this as a beta, only I'm sure there are no problems, perhaps just things that can be improved a tad. I still plan on doing the high res version, too. She is in white, incidently, all textures removed, it isn't like better than stock Posette textures are hard to find! Have fun!

Hi Jim, I always loved the way you see women. As you can see, Posette2003 has arrived well and is happy being around here. :) I thank you very much for your great work! Willy

Huch...Willy, what did you do to her upper left leg? Looks like a split or something? Maybe she got a not so right fitting spare leg off of some dressing-window-model???

here she is......... just downloaded her and I had to do a pic. She's wearing Gerald Day's jive dress, no probs with that, I conformed it and scaled it like normal. Also Maya's Wild Tail. I've not applied any extra morphs yet, this is just as she comes with the standard Posette morphs. Texture is P4 Freckled woman, no idea who did that. Doesn't she look cute?? I love her. Thanks a lot Jim :D

Thank you Jim, for a wonderful job. The new Posette is amazing. I downloaded her and couldn't resist trying her out immediately. No real problems. I used morph manager to apply some P4 head morphs I made a couple of years ago, worked fine. Dressed her in the Cheongsam dress, it fit pretty well and posed OK. Put on some high heels, had a few minor probs with those, but eventually got them to fit. Built a scene using Poserworlds catwalk, did a render and here's the result....with absoloutely NO postwork.

Yet again...Thank you Jim!

:)
