I recently found a tutorial at Southern Graphics about how to create Poser morphs in ZBrush: http://www.southerngfx.co.uk/demo/posertutorial/morphtargets.htm

I followed the directions, but it seems that when I import my morph into Poser and turn the dial, my character flattens instead of morphing. Does anyone know what might cause this?

I think you did to much maybe you can ask in the ZBrush forum?

I haven't tried making any morphs yet, so I'm not positive about anything,...but did you move the model in space. I think you can move the points of the head, but I think the points where the neck meets the body need to remain where they are. But like I said, I'm not sure. I know that Glenn had another tutorial that dealt with elongated neck. It seems like you have some variation of that. You might want to look for that tutorial.

I use this for my morphs if you make morphs for a head you must just use the head and not the eyes or neck with it, what i mean to say is, you export the head as an obj from poser and make sure the only one to click is morph targets in poser, then you import to zbrush make the morph then save the new obj and apply in poser it wont work if you have eyes and outher pieces with it if you want to make a morph for the whole figure then you have to do each body part on its own hope it helps seeklight

Glenn (Southern)tut is very good, however it is for an older version of ZBrush. The latest version (155b)is a little different in that when you export your obj out of ZBrush....it gets reversed. At ZBrush Central you can pick up a script that makes the obj export correctly. To fix the morph you now have, just import it back into ZBrush, then export it back out...that will reverse it. Happy Morphing,SWAMP

Check out this link. Has some good notes to follow, plus in the second post, click on that link to download the xflip zscript. I had the same issue until I started using the xflip script to export out of zbrush. Foxx

BTW...you CAN morph the whole figure (or several parts)in ZBrush. Very easy to do,but a few more steps are involved. SWAMP

And those steps would be ... ?

Boy I'm glad to see that some one else got that same problem with Z-Brush.

Thanks! Importing the .obj and exporting it out again worked! But I noticed it doesn't work all the time. It seems like if I do too many adjustments to the head I get the long neck morph. I've read a bit about what causes this but I still can't figure out why mine is doing it. I'll have to play with it a bit more I guess :-)

Actually, there IS another thing you can do besides the above-mentioned script ... Export the head from Poser and import it into ZBrush. Before you morph anything, export it out again as a OBJ file and save it somewhere on your hard drive as "reversedhead" or something. Any time you want to create a head morph, import the reversedhead.obj file into ZBrush. Create your morph target, and then export it. It should then be correct. This approach saves you from having to use the script over and over again each time you make a morph. Sneaky, huh? 8-)

OK,several people have IM'd me asking about the full body morphs in ZBrush...so I'll post a fast "how-to". In ZBrush... Import the obj for the figure from the geometry folder in Poser. Do your morphing on the whole figure, just as you do on just a body part (note:the symetric settings in ZBrush are a BIG help to make things even on both sides of the body). Now export as you normaly do..don't forget to use the Xflip script. Now in Poser.. Import the obj..leave everything UNchecked in the box that pops up. Select the grouping tool, and click on the figure. In the dialog box that appears...select "spawn props". Now just export each body part (name them so you know what is what) with just "morph target checked, to a holding folder. >Note: You only need to export the parts you have adjusted(morphed in ZBrush). Now load the figure from the library and apply those saved morphs as MT's...(just like you do when working with one body part at a time). Adjust your MT dials to get the whole body to look like you want...then Figure>Create full body morph. Hope this helps,SWAMP

Excellent!! That is one clever use of ZBrush and Poser. Thx for sharing the info.
