Subject: Carrara 3: user comments anyone?

Hi all, I've yet to upgrade to Carrara 3 and was hoping to read some user comments. I didnt find many topic threads on the subject so figured I would ask the question directly. Oh and if anyone remembers a renderosity member by the name MaxBeckett, well that's me. I had originally signed up using my email from work which is no longer valid and when I couldnt remember my password I couldnt get it emailed to me. So I signed up with a brand new name. Just call me Hops! :o) So, how about this upgrade then? Cheers, Hops

Hey Max! You can get the update at the Eovia website. I personally haven't noticed anything different but I'd do it anyway. -Kix

I think the upgrade to C3 is great. The workflow is better, tree and plant generator, HDRI. Those 3 things alone made it worth it for me. Patrick

shader domains are wonderful. The vertex modeller is now used a lot by me... especially for grouping objects without breaking them up (necessary for figures that may one day reside in Daz Studio through a Poser route) I cant begin to count the ways C3 is better for me than C2. An excellent application.

Hello, I am making a post. WOW. I have to post for anyone that has tried DEMO after DEMO or purchased another program and is not happy. 2 years ago I laid in the big bucks for strata 3.o and upgraded to 3.5. built the top line pc at the time a 2.0 pent. went out and purchaced a elsa dcc for 700.00 (BIG MISTAKE IF I COULD HAVE READ THE FUTURE) and started my dream as a hobby 3d animate junky. I was nothing but UNHAPPY. Strata had nothing but ERROR> I could not even finish a small project without a problem. I had to save every 5 minutes to be safe, GOT THE VIDEOS FOR ^(>))< , still had problems, I GAVE UP. WELL, let me tell you what I did next, the past year I have tried many demos, built many new PC"S, tried to make strata work for me., CRY.. Tried Lightwave, cd4, maya, MAX, truespace. Well to start ahead I have started my new MONSTER PC to run strata and sold the other while I still could. So again I pulled out my stand by pent. 533 with 4 mb intergrated video card and for sheets and giggles I loaded up the carrara 3 demo to check it out. I HAVE FOUND IT>>>> I AM SO HAPPY, EASY LEARNING CURVE< I NEEDED NO FANCY VIDEOS< NO HOURS OF LEARNING< plus I am on my standby PC , THE 533,.. NO errors,, from Many multiple objects to my choice, to any angle, everything I tried WORKED>>>> All I can say is next pay day I will be getting carrara 3.. I am a guy that is just looking for something to start with and be happy. If that is what you are looking for try the Demo. I will be starting out learning soon and hope everyone will continue with posts on this product, thanks for all the nice info guys. I STILL CAN NOT BELIEVE WHAT I WAS DOING WITH THIS PRODUCT ON A JUNK PC 533 4 MB video.. Cool

Well, I may not be quite as enthusiastic as netstile but I sure do like C3. I had some problems with C2 and annoying bugs and omissions but C3 is wonderful. No serious bugs, the modelers work great and the rendering is very fast. Shaders also are quite powerful. Everything you need is in one package with a good interface and plugins available too. A glance at the galleries will show that this program is only limited by the user. Well...maybe I am as enthusiastic as netstile ;-)

I started out in Ray Dream Designer back in 1995. Switched over to Lightwave about a year and a half ago because I needed a better modeler and loved LW's renderer. Got the Carrara 3 upgrade when it came out and noticed that the rendering engine was great and the vertex modeler was much improved. I now find myself working in Carrara constantly. Haven't opened Lightwave in a while.

Attached Link: http://www.eovia.com/carrara/whats_new_car3.jsp

I've attached a link to Eovia's "What's New" page for C3. As far as I can tell, everyone that's upgraded finds the product more stable, easier to use, faster, and - oh, yeah - there are several new features. There has been some whining that the animation tools and bones haven't been improved, but that's all. IMHO, it's definitely worth the upgrade. - Jasen.
