Hello I am thinking about making clothes for poser that I wish to sell and I have noticed that most of the tutorials on the internet for making clothes for poser figures base the clothes on other meshes and just modify them. Surely it its illegal to sell such an item. I have looked at some of the meshes from some of the items in the store here at rendo and from other online poser stores and as I am a modeler I have notictied that the mesh is either identical to either V3 for example or it is a direct copy of another item of clothing but the mesh has been altered eg. the polygons have been changed from 4 sided polys to 3 sided polys. Or bits of the orginal mesh have been deleted to created a new item. So is it illegal to sell an item of clothing that has been created in such a matter or even give it away for that matter ? cyber

If you have actually seen these things you should report them to the admin as it is indeed illegal to take someone else's mesh, alter it and then sell it or give it away under your name (unless you have express permission). Most modellers use the base figure as a guide to making clothing. For example, I use Rhino to make my clothing and I can create contours on a model to get the basic shape for my clothes. I do NOT at any time use the actual mesh of the base model itself. If you are going to make clothes for Poser, I suggest finding other tutorials (there are many here and at Poser Pros) to explain what I mention above, as it is a perfectly legitimate way to do it.

also there are a few copyright free items out, such as the quicksuits that thip put out. if someone made something from the quicksuits it would be exceptable

Neither is allowed as that is prevents the original creator from using their own mesh for potential future projects and is just not permitted in general for obvious reasons. email abuse@daz3d.com with a list of any items you have noticed this. Copyright infringment is an ongoing battle from people trying to cut corners and make a quick buck using someone elses work. Daz handles all information sources anonymously. As a long time maker of clothes I urge you to forward any info you have.

Cyber Ant, I , for one, understand and appreciate why you posted this here. Fore example, if you hadn't Xena and myself would likely never have seen it.
