Subject: New Year's Resolutions

tjohn ( ) posted Mon, 29 December 2003 at 6:07 AM · edited Fri, 29 November 2024 at 8:34 PM

Erosiart asked about New Year's Resolutions, so I thought that sounded like it need its own thread, so here's mine. 1. I resolve never to get involved in another "Bad Art-Good Art" discussion about the Hot20. 2. I resolve to play less video games and watch less TV and devote more time to making some marks on actual paper and canvas. 3. I resolve try harder to love people who are hard to love (even Drac- J/K!! ho ho ho). John

This is not my "second childhood". I'm not finished with the first one yet.

1. I agree to think about stopping smoking more often... 2. I will only play the best games from now on... 3. I might stop shouting at the monitor and waiting for a reaction...

I will not drink and play around with the keyboard! (hic!hic!) I will do more renderings (when is that damn rendering gonna get over!) I will not swear at the computer when it hangs in the middle of me creating an image. (f...! %Y%^&@%)

I resolve to make even more people cross-eyed and wondering 'How did he do that?'

LOL at some of the above, and Ttops I want a monitor/kitchen window like that! Me I resolve to actually finish some of the images I have problems with instead of littering my hard drive with partially completed bryce images.

I resolve to start only 1..2..3..4, no make that 5 projects at a time. And finish one, some, most, all of them before starting another.

catlin_mc ( ) posted Mon, 29 December 2003 at 5:53 PM

Ok, if we must make some resolutions...............then here goes 1)I will go back to school and try to re educate myself. 2)Find the source of the grey aliens. 3)Try to drink more than 2 whiskey's before becoming drunk, so I'm not such a cheap date. 4)Join chohole in trying to finish work and not looking for a new hard drive to store all the unfinished ones. I may even be able to stick to these resolutions 'cos I think the only one I'll have trouble with is 3). I've been trying to drink more, without falling over, for years, but as yet I've been unsuccessful. lol 8) Catlin

Proclamation 1: After being 'clean' of ciggies for over 20 years, I started up again about a year ago, due to a very stressful time I was going through. I have tried quitting again, but am having a bad time of it. Worse now than before...but still want to quit and will try again starting on the 1st day of 2004. Proclamation 2: I will do my darnest to learn as much as I can about using Bryce and create better images.

CharleyD ( ) posted Tue, 30 December 2003 at 9:16 PM

You're having a worse time for quitting this time because the ciggies they make nowadays are stronger than they were 20 years ago. Good luck... you need it.

Ardiva ( ) posted Tue, 30 December 2003 at 9:38 PM

You're KIDDING, Charley?? Sheesh..I remember smoking Lucky Strike's with no filter. You're telling me that the "light" filters nowadays are not better?

Sharleen ( ) posted Tue, 30 December 2003 at 11:07 PM

It's true... the tobacco companies had to find a way to stop people from quitting smoking.... their answer was rDNA ... recombinant DNA... changed to make the tobacco stronger. You are smoking stronger, and fighting a harder addiction now.

Ardiva ( ) posted Tue, 30 December 2003 at 11:19 PM

OHHHHHHHH GAWWWWWWWWWWD!!!!!!!!!!!! Well wish me luck anyways...I'll do my best! Right now I've been down to 5-8 cigs a day for the last 3 months. Just have to get passed the first one in the morning cravings, then things get somewhat easier for me. Thanks for all your info. Much appreciated.

CharleyD ( ) posted Wed, 31 December 2003 at 12:17 AM

Get the Nicorette patches... I understand the Nicorette gum tastes terrible... I've never smoked at all, so just going on what others have told me.

CharleyD ( ) posted Wed, 31 December 2003 at 12:18 AM

oh yeah.... GOOD LUCK!!!!! .... almost forgot!! :o)

Ardiva ( ) posted Wed, 31 December 2003 at 11:04 AM

Well, I quit cold-turkey before after having a 2 pack a day habit for 30 years...we'll see what happens now. Thanks again for your encouraging help. :-)

CharleyD ( ) posted Wed, 31 December 2003 at 9:52 PM

My mother quit 'cold turkey' and succeeded many years ago. She said it was the only way to do it. I have to take her word for it ;o)

Nukeboy ( ) posted Wed, 31 December 2003 at 10:24 PM

I will give up abstinence, temperence and fasting. It will be difficult, but that is what resolutions are for...

Ardiva ( ) posted Wed, 31 December 2003 at 10:28 PM

LOL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

tjohn ( ) posted Thu, 01 January 2004 at 2:15 AM

Ardiva: The only successful way to quit tobacco is cold turkey. Until you stop, you can't quit. :^) Your body has to have time to detox and as long as you keep putting the poison (and it is literally a poison) in your system no matter whether through smoke or patches or gum or whatever, the addiction will continue. Once you detox, there may be a month or more of discomfort, after that the addiction is purely psychological. It really helps to breed a distaste and even hatred of cigarettes and smoking. As long as you keep seeing smoking as having positive aspects, you will have a more difficult time. Accentuate the positive aspects of not smoking, you smell better, you feel better, you'll live longer, and you will save enough money in a year to buy a new computer! I've been smoke-free since August of 1987 and have not regretted it for a second. When I stopped, I was smoking 2 and a half to 3 packs a day. You can do it! John

They also say that these supposed low ciggys are death repackaged, 'cos you are still filling your lungs with toxins even if there is less tar. Best of luck with it though, I'm going to try to quit too and my doctor says she will help me get through it, so we'll see what happens. 8) Catlin
