Subject: Another freeze problem

chud ( ) posted Thu, 01 January 2004 at 7:04 PM · edited Thu, 28 November 2024 at 10:18 PM

Whenever I try to load a pz3 file Poser asks me where a certain texture is then when I try to look for it I can't scroll or anything and then Poser freezes and I have to reboot my computer. I am running Poser4 on a 1MHz G4Mac ,OS9.2.2 and have given Poser over 300MB of RAM. Can anyone please tell me why this is happening? It never has before. Thanks in advance.

It sounds like that pz3 is a big file that wants loads of memory. Here's my memory setting for poser 382144k (lifted out of the Get Info) An other thing you could do is wait a bit after poser asks for the file before you start looking, this will give the processor a chance to 'catch up' on all the stuff poser is asking it to do. I'm on a G3/400 with 896meg ram

Thanks for your input,Charlie. I tried that but it didn't work. Is it possible Poser or the pz3s have been corrupted?

Charlie_Tuna ( ) posted Thu, 01 January 2004 at 10:06 PM

it's possible the pz3 got 'bent' if poser works on other things or other pz3s it's most likely that one's messed up

Yeah, the problem seems to be on several of my pz3s.

Thanks again, but the problem's still there.

Try reducing your extention load that will lighten the list of things the system has to keep track of, should free up a few more cpu cycles btw, what pz3 is causing the most trouble?

I think I'll reinstall Poser and see if that clears it up. I've found the problem exists if I load textures for anything.

Hmm, that sounds like poser itself has got bent, bummer to make things a bit easier haul the libraries and the textures folder out of your runtime this makes sure you don't lose anything after the reinstall :-)

Don't forget the Geometries file, you'll be up the proverbial river if you lose that one
