If anybody fancies Poser-izing some free People figures, get over to 3dup and download the free Cache-Force models up there. They'll make a change from the usual figures at any rate :)

cgnetworks has also a nice collection of free models.

I know I always say the same thing but it is usually wise to avoid modifying and distributing freebies. Only when you buy something with a release are you free from liability. terms listed on their page: "you may not resell or give away any of these models individually or as part of a Collection or Web Page of any kind without prior WRITTEN permission from CacheForce 3D Computing Ltd."

From the second link. This includes downloads. " 2002-2003 | CGNetworks & Ballistic Media - All rights reserved No part of this website may be reproduced unless for personal use without prior written permission from CGNetworks" Only mention this because I assume that by asking who is up for boning, it would entail posting them converted.

Hell, I'd just settle for a nice tute on how to bone models. Are there any? I have a whole slew of models I've made in other programs that I'd like to poserize.

tonymouse ( ) posted Sun, 04 January 2004 at 1:21 PM

Depending on the file type if they are already obj's all you would have to put up is the cr2 and let them download the modle itself and tell them where to put the obj But I agree with you Anton it would still be quite a hassle.

stewer ( ) posted Sun, 04 January 2004 at 2:03 PM

Or you could just rig them for your personal entertainment - I did that with one of the 3dnetworks figures.

stewer ( ) posted Sun, 04 January 2004 at 2:04 PM

cgnetworks, that is. Note to self: First think, then post.

mateo_sancarlos ( ) posted Sun, 04 January 2004 at 2:23 PM

Tonymouse, it looks like most of them aren't obj files. Anyway, it would be necessary to distribute a modified, regrouped obj file for use with Poser, which would be a violation of their terms. It looks like they did some nice, original work, and it's in our interest to protect their rights.

Permission though is almost always one email away :)

Who said anything about distributing? I didn't, I just said for a challenge. Blimey. Anyway, here's the cop from there after literally five minutes, which included unzipping, importing into P5, applying the P4 business mans' bones, colouring him, posing and rendering. Obviously he's a bit rough as I couldn't be bothered to sort his bones out properly, but given time, who knows?

Raven, how do you apply the bones from one character to another?

raven ( ) posted Sun, 04 January 2004 at 5:17 PM

I imported the cop, and went into the setup room. Open the library tab, and load a figure from it. You don't actually load the figure, but the bone setup. Then you move the differing bones to the places you want them to be. Then open the group editor while still in the setup room. I chose autogroup, which basically auto-assigns a group to a bone. You can refine it a bit then if you want to. Beware the eye bones (when I left the setup room they practically were assigned to half the head each!) Exit to the pose room, and you can adjust fall off zones and the like. I just threw that quick pose together using the dials. The head listed all os the morphs from the P4 business man but obviously they didn't work. Now that's very rough and ready, but I did it by following the help in the setup room.

I found a GREAT lightwave model I've been DYING to bone.. he's a commercial very popular horror creature, but I haven't learned boning yet. I already got permission to poserfy and distribute him, but just haven't had the time to learn that part of poser yet.

Way too many people take way too many things way too seriously.

Question. I have a mac, so no tailor. I also have a karate suit for M2. Now if I enlarged the clothing, copied the freaks bone setup in the setup room and put it into the karate outfit, could I make a karate outfit for the freak, or does this sound like a silly idea? (I've only had poser 5 for 2 days, and at the moment I set it going on sketch render on a huge scene and didn't change any default settings. that was about 2 hours ago and it still hasn't finished, either that or it's hanging.) Love Esther

NO that wont create a conforming karate garment for the freak. and yes 2 hours is a very long time for a default sketch render there might be a problem
