Subject: Looking for a skull

I asked in Poser forum, but... I'm looking for a Poser skeleton, that's more detailed that the default Poser one and cheaper than the DAZ ones, preferably free, cause I cannot buy it at the moment. Actually, I would be satisfied with a good, detailed skull. I can always Poserise it myself. The ones at 3d Cafe are about as good as the Poser one, and the Gothic Skull, unfortunately, doesn't exist here in Free stuff either. There's a Poser character, Skeletorn, in 3D commune store, which appears to have pretty detailed mesh and good texture, but I don't need skull armour and similar stuff. Anybody has any suggestions?

Damn. found a good VRML skull at http://www.faraday.gla.ac.uk/models/skull.wrl But Rhino doesn't import it, and Bryce says Out of Memory. the skull is 2.6 MB. Couold somebody say in which program I could convert it into something usable?

It opened in TurboCAD Pro V9.2, and saved as 3DS. It is quite a bit smaller now but it wont attach here. Wrong file format. I will send it to you if you like.

Oh, thanks, you don't need to. A friend opened it in 3D Studio and saved it for me.

A killer skull I have used for years is at 3dcafe (I assume it's still there). It's named "Hellskull."

Interestingly, I downloaded it - and a bunch of other parts - from 3D cafe. Imported it in Rhino to see what it looks like and got just the jaw and teeth. Opened in UV Mapper, which said it contained "out of range data" and would I want to correct it. Corrected it, but still problems. And then opened it in LithUnwrap, created new groups, and the skull is now missing 6-7 polygons. So, I discarded it. :-/ Pity, it has a great texture. I did get a nice Poser skeleton as gift, so I'll be using it for the picture I have in mind. I'll try to recreate the hellskull texture, though, but a bit lighter. Anyway, as I said, I downloaded a bunch of bones from 3D Cafe and put together a great skeleton in Rhino. About 45 thousand polygons. What follows is: I will create groups and material regions in LithUnwrap (I love that program), and then import the model into Poser for boning. I hope it will be possible to pose the skeleton like you can Poser 4 man. Or even Poser 5 man. Some things I downloaded are incredibly detailed. The final result is, I will put the skeleton somewhere as a freebie. But since I'm currently working on the companion instruments to my lute, the skeleton will wait a bit. Hopefully, not too long.

Erlik what is LithUnwrap and what is it for?

It's a mapping program like UV Mapper, but has the advantage of working with more formats and having an easier-understood interface. Unfortunately, it's an abandonware and it turned into Ultimate Unwrap at www.unwrap3d.com. You can still find Lith Unwrap at http://files.seriouszone.com/download.php?fileid=198 there are several links for download and the first one works.
