Checked back for your post, but I couldn't find it. Anyway, whoever you are, this is a possible solution to put sparkle in an outfit. It's a bump map and a reflection map together, and I haven't got it quite right yet, but it could be OK. At the moment it only works well on silver and I want all colors. Will work on it and post soon I hope. If you want the tech info or maps, let me know and I'll send them. maclean

I didn't post the original thread, but this looks great! I have been using bump maps and reflect maps with some success as well. I am not sure if this is in reference to the same post, but someone asked about combining transmaps and reflect maps together - not much luck there.

just posted it now in Freestuff for anyone who wants to have a look. I personally can't decide if it looks good or just plain ugly. definitely 70s retro. all is explained in the readme. this will be part of a transmapped outfit (hopefully with a slightly less violent look to it!) enjoy (if you can) maclean

shadownet quick add-on. my gold lamdress in Freestuff combines a transmap and reflection map (and bump map). it can be done. the trick is to check both 'multiply through lights' and 'multiply through object color' try it. maclean

Cool! I'll have to try that. As for now, on my way to download both from freestuff. Thanks for posting!

I LOVE the violent colors! Think I was born with a bit of Crow in me, I love things that sparkle and shine (gee, doesn't that sound like the title of a song by Econoline Crush...yeah, it is). I downloaded it as soon as I saw it. I think you're onto something really cool here. Keep going! Liz Pope Dreamspinner Inc.

Yeah, it's retro, but when retro looks that good... who cares? Sharp work. And in a scene with a hot '70's car, thats just the look I'd want. I agree with Liz... you definately have a workable technique here, very sweet.

Wow, just tried the sparkly disco ones, really hit the mark, thanks maclean. And I noticed in the preview inside the zip the purple and green also come close to looking like velvet taffeta maybe with some other settings. Anyway, both sets are very versatile, thanks :)

maclean, I was the misfit that was trying to create a sparkley dress. Your work looks great. Any idea how it reacts to lights in an animation? Thanks, Visque

maclean ( ) posted Thu, 31 August 2000 at 11:39 AM

visque, thanks a lot for setting me off on this one. it just happened to coincide with the technique I was using for my gold lamdress (wasn't trying to jump the gun on you!) I'm not much into animation, so I can't answer that one, but if you know anything about animation, check the question I'm posting about 'Posetweak'. maybe you can help. maclean
