Subject: As the thread was locked, I can't otherwise reply...

I assume Ronstuff was refering to my catalog post, which actually was moved to the Product Showcase shortly afterward, I got a message from a mod about it... Still don't know why, though. I don't have a commercial site, I don't sell anything at my site, and I'm not going to link to it in this message, only thing available there is Freestuff and pictures. Besides, the link was directly to the catalog. I do sell Poser stuff for a living, I don't feel ashamed to say that, I sell at DAZ, BBay, PoserPros and here. The catalog illustrates some of my for-sale items, also many of my Freestuff items, I'm sorry if I (once again) stepped over the line. Let me also say, at one time the rule in Freestuff was direct links only, opening on any page whatsoever was not allowed. I know it is tough to get places to host stuff, BBay kindly hosts me, many of the members don't seem to know that having a popular Freestuff item can cost some bucks to host...

Dave-So ( ) posted Sun, 11 January 2004 at 11:33 AM

I had missed the whole thrust of the above link... all I can say is that if something is complained about, the moderators and now the coordinators OWE it to the posters at least the common sense and courtesy to actually READ the offending post ????? I've been a member here since Jan 2000, and boy is this place getting off the wall. It's getting like a bunch of ol bitty women with nothing else to do but discover some offense to make a big deal about. Why don't we get back to what made this place great initially... COMMUNITY....where did that go ????

Jim, The thread was locked, IMHO, due the fact if went too far off topic & was going nowhere possitive. Dave, I could say alot, but won't, I'll only say this.... alot goes on ppl are not privy to, please bare with Us, this transition & trying to make some changes is a trial & error event. Please try to understand. Thanks, Thomas Poser Coordinator

dialyn ( ) posted Sun, 11 January 2004 at 11:53 AM

Well, I will say that Jim is a well-known merchant, and that the catalog he refers to looked very much like an advertising catalog for his products to me. I can understand why the thread was moved to the Product Showcase since the catalog looked like a showcase for his product. Hardly a penality...rather, just letting the products be displayed in the proper forum. I looked at the catalog and the items were very much in Jim's style of advertising his for sale items. I think that's the reason the thread was moved...not for what was on the site itself. I can understand completely why it was moved. But that's just me and my personal opinion.

Great idea Caly - I think a different version of Jim's catalog - just featuring his free stuff is an outstanding idea! The catalog is very well designed and is very much a viewing pleasure! Jim, we hope you will take Caly up on the offer :) Dee-Marie

Little known fact, not even suspected by most of the masses: There actually ARE cute bitties.* Not meant to imply bittyhood in this particular instance. Hardly! So now you know. Larry F *(Actually spelling "biddy")

geep ( ) posted Sun, 11 January 2004 at 6:48 PM

re: actual spelling "biddy" Unless they're small ... then it is "bitty," no? ;=]

I'm a bitty biddy, except after holidays and then I'm a biggie biddy. :)

Larry F ( ) posted Sun, 11 January 2004 at 7:28 PM

Wouldn't "bitty" = small, i.e., "itty bitty"? Would I be dating myself if I mentioned Brian Holland(?)'s hit of the (early) 60s "Itsy Bitsy Teeny Weeny Yellow Polka Dot Bikini", to point out the "BITsy" spelling? The exact origin of the "biddy" spelling eludes me at this exact moment, but then I've been around a while and can be excused. If I recall correctly. What was that again? And, yes, I guess there could be some "bitsy biddies/bitties" if there could be "biggie biddies." Couldn't there?

dialyn ( ) posted Sun, 11 January 2004 at 7:33 PM

Main Entry: 1biddy Pronunciation: 'bi-dE Function: noun Inflected Form(s): plural biddies Etymology: perhaps imitative Date: 1601 : HEN 1a; also : a young chicken Meriam-Webster I knew in the context of hen, as in "she's no spring chicken anymore." Seems like biddy has come to mean something other than "young" or all Vickys would flattered at being referred to by the term rather than vaguely insulted by it (Vickys, by their nature, are vague).

Questor ( ) posted Sun, 11 January 2004 at 7:39 PM

It is usually used in the context of fussy interfering old maid. A "biddy" is elongated in English by "old biddy", thereby describing a grandmotherly type person who invariably looks like and acts like she's sucking lemons. It comes from the rural areas I believe following the "fussing and clucking" of a mother hen around her chicks. Nice derailment of a thread there, and just with a photo of a fat man in a red suit.

Larry F ( ) posted Sun, 11 January 2004 at 7:49 PM

Great to get the exact info. I love a smart woman, biddy or not. No disrespect intended, in re "thread derailment". One could say that, when one gets older, some things don't seem to work as well. OTOH tangential thinking/stream of consciousness seems to take a quantum leap up the functionality scale, hence said "derailment".

cherokee69 ( ) posted Sun, 11 January 2004 at 8:04 PM

"One could say that, when one gets older, some things don't seem to work as well." Excuse me, but all of me is working very well...thank you...actually better than it was when I was younger.

Dave-So ( ) posted Sun, 11 January 2004 at 8:14 PM

Ok....biddy :) Well, wrong spelling, correct correlation. And deemarie, you be looking pretty fine up there.

Dave-So ( ) posted Sun, 11 January 2004 at 9:17 PM

what's with that head biting thing anymore...everyone seems to jump off the deep end all the time..really fast..even myself... Are we all too stressed out or something ??? I do this Poser thing for relaxation from my day job..and come here for help, inspiration, and some good conversation, but it seems a bit hostile often..and not just here...I got waylaid pretty hard at another site for making a statmeent in jest...and geez..I even had the smiley face guy and LOL....

I'm glad that Jim's catalog post was moved to its appropriate venue. I'm irritated that he is bringing the matter up again. It was a sales pitch, pure and direct and illegal. It was not a reponse to a query, nor was it to assist in solving a problem by supplying a needed item... it was a pitch to prospective customers. This was cheating and he knows it, despite his pretence of innocence. This matter has been brought up again and again and again. As an established merchant, he ought to set a standard instead of trying to tear one down. The rule about no commercial advertisements disguised as posts MUST be applied fairly across the board to ALL merchants no matter how popular or how much income they bring to a site. I will not buy from him, not a hair, not a model, not a scrap of clothing, no matter how well something is made, because I do not support those who constantly shove their wares under my nose... and there are other merchants who do quality work and who abide by the rules of this site. If I want to go shopping, I know where to look. An annoyed customer.

Caly ( ) posted Mon, 12 January 2004 at 8:28 AM

His catalog linked to his freebie site. His catalog includes images of his freebies as well as his commercial items. Not only that, but it has artistic value. I could see the images used in a calendar, nevermind a catalog. I will definitely continue to buy from him.

Biddy --- I think the idea was that a "biddy" was a young chicken with the inexperience, etc., typical of young chicken (which are not, even compared to turkeys, rocket scientists). Thus an "old biddy" is a "maiden chicken" that got old without learning much. Much worse, by the way, than an "old hen," which has at least managed to grow up, even if it is basically just a bird-brained chicken. So yeah, "biddy" is a pretty major diss. Any around here? Well, that would be OT... :-) M

And actually I haven't been round very much, having too much fun modeling and working at Rendervisions where things are much mellower. I'm afraid that I'm not so good with the "Rules and Regulations" ... chalk it up to the anarchist artist in me. Lyrra
