Poser - OFFICIAL F.A.Q (Last Updated: 2025 Jan 31 12:41 am)
Yeah, I tested it in PP after I calmed down a little bit (chocolate does wonders) and couldn't get it to work there, either. I know other people have put in FBMs in pose files (I did a sanity check and did find plenty of Pose files with FBMs that work), so I stupidly assumed that Poser would put in all the morphs in the Pose file when it offered to save the freaking morphs. Well, I have some of the poses saved within scene files, so I'm off to hack up the files, then recreate the rest. (Sorry, it's late, Poser ate my homework!) If there's a utility that anyone knows of that would do this for me, I'd love to hear about it. BTW: Anyone have some spackle to fix the head-shaped holes in my wall? : Cheers!

I have a python script on my artist page that will do it for you. It does other pose saving stuff too. It's not a perfect solution (because even in Python, CL decided not to treat valueParm dials appropriately) but it works. I also have an upcoming free application that will take a saved cr2 and make a perfect FBM and ERC saving pose, but it's still a fair way from finished. In the mean time, try the script.

BTW, has anybody found a way to get rid of this link adding parasite yet? Yes, I've used spybot and adaware both with up to the minute definitions. Yes I've cleaned out the cache and the cookies. No it's not helping. I used to be able clean the links out in preview but even that isn't working now.

I probably won't put support for animation in the first version, LD. I've never looked at how animation is stored in the files so I would have to learn a lot of new stuff to do that. I can see it would be a useful thing though so if the first version is popular I'll try to add animation to version 2. Also, once I get the basic version working I'll have a look at some animated pz3s just in case it looks really easy to add. I can already think of some tricky things I'll have to deal with though. Wouldn't it be so much easier if CL had just written the pose saving routines right in the first place? (Posting from work now, so no fear of nasty links. Phew)

Poser will not normally save FBM dial info, or ERC channel info, or even scale dial info to the Pose library. To get this info requires a hack. Use the python, Ajax offered, since that will be easier than editing the file by hand. If you have to do a manual edit, open the cr2 for the figure, copy all the FBM text in the Body section, and then clean it up by removing all the unnecessary extra lines. You mentioned you had a pz2 with FBM in it, just open it up in a text editor and see what info is listed, and then edit yours so that it is similar. A real pain to do this way, but when you got to, you got to. I was not aware Ajax had a python to do this, I have been using another I found in free stuff, but it was meant to save MOR and Scale info - but will save FBM if you set them to 1. So, I set all my FBM to 1 and save the pose, then change them back to 0 or whatever they need to be with a quick s/r of pz2 in Editpad lite. Ajax, at the risk of you picking up another nasty - what is the link to your site? I want to go grab your script. LOL!
LD, Yes, I think it was the same one Anton and a few others had. I killed it by making Adaware run on boot instead of running it manually after startup. I also got a new update for Adaware they just posted yesterday, so that could be what did it too. shadownet, It's on my Rendo artist page. Just click my name at the top of this post then click the link that says "Ajax's Artist Page". The downloads are toward the bottom. Read the doco section at the top of the script before you use it. The Poser Python "method" (using the term in the object oriented programming sense) for determining dial values rolls ERC into the dial value. It's extremely annoying. I had to work around that and the result is that if any of your ERC masters are not valueParms, you might get a pose that sets things incorrectly. If you save a pose with both ERC and actor rotation info for example, the JCMs in Vicki 3 would be applied at twice the correct value. I wrote to CL about it, but since I'm probably the only person that writes to them about stuff as obscure as the python method for reading dial settings, I doubt they'll ever fix it. They prioritise bugs by the number of people that write to them to complain. Maybe I should draft a form letter and ask lots of people to send it.

Thankfully, I got my stuff done, if a bit later than I wanted. I ended up hand hacking the files because I didn't see Ajax's post in time. Oy, I was seriously stressed out! (If you couldn't tell by the first post.) : I had to recreate each pose, save as a .pz3 file, then scoop the information out for the FBMs and paste them into the Pose files that had the rest of the information. (I was so stressed, I couldn't remember if the .cr2 file held the morph values or not and I couldn't bear the thought of re-doing these yet again if I was wrong.) It was annoying, but it worked pretty well. Thanks for all the help and the info on the script. I'll definitely try it when I'm not in total freak-out mode. :) Cheers!
No problem. Actually this script is mostly about self-interest :-) People like my stuff better if they can save poses for it and I've always wanted to be able to make poses for my stuff myself.

How do you get them to save in Pose files? I have a clothing item that I need to save poses for, and the poses include full body morphs. (Lots of them.) Freaking P5 will NOT save the full body morphs, even if I tell it to save the morph channels. I really do NOT want to have to hack the .pz3 file to get the body information and stick it in the .pz2 file if at all possible. How do other people get this to work? Please, I'm under a deadline and literally about to cry! I have to redo some of my work as it is because I didn't realize the d****d program wasn't saving the necessary information. (Gee, I thought "Save Morph Channels" saved all the morph channels, not just the ones P5 felt like saving at that minute!) GYAHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!! Thanks for any help I can get!!!!!!!
