Does anyone know of any good books for a beginner with poser 5? I only saw 2 on amazon, and both got some pretty rough customer ratings... I've had this program on my drive for several months and never seem to use it, as i don't know what i'm doing. Is there a tutorial anywhere on creating "clothing"? I skimmed the tutorial on making smart props and it looks really sharp... i am going to go back over it in more detail later... but unless i can figure out how everyone is creating all this cool clothing and armor... my "cool looking 'smart prop' Blade of Doom", is going to be wielded by a buck naked knight! thanks

To learn the program itself I highly recommend the video by 3-axis. Joe Grover, who is no lightweight when it comes to all things 3D, goes through all the Poser 5 rooms in detail. I'm sure you will find his straight forward friendly approach easy to follow.

Another publication you may want to consider is Secrets of Figure Creation with Poser by B L Render. Although I have not seen this personally I understand that it is getting good reviews from those that have purchased it.

For more information on how to create content for Poser may I also point you towards a tutorial that I have published. Details may be found at http://www.philc.net/tutorialsIndex.htm together with a number of other online tutorials that I hope you will find of benefit.

I probably wouldn't recommend "Secrets of Figure Creation with Poser", by B L Render, to somebody new. It's a solid book on creating Poser figures, but it's written for experienced users and is more a reference book than one full of tutorials. There really isn't a great book out there for Poser beginners and the Poser manual isn't often much help. There are tutorials here, at Curious Labs, and many other sites to help out beginners.

thanks rreynolds... i actually swung by the bookstore and got the book already. I learned C++ from books, so i'm used to causing myself mental anguish! I checked it out at the bookstore, and it looked like i might be able to figure things out. As soon as i get some free time, i'm going to make an OBJ file in 3dsmax and see if i can make something happen... probably be my weekend project...
