Subject: New way to get to the DAZ weekly freebies?

Bryde ( ) posted Sat, 17 January 2004 at 4:20 PM · edited Fri, 10 January 2025 at 7:09 PM

Ok...I just went to the DAZ weekly freebies page and what's that? I need to log into my store account? Usually I only needed to type in my name and my email addy and then I would be transferred to the download page. Now I need to log into my shop account, then look under products and there is a free products option. Clicked on it and then there is a free sara figure...hmmmm....I already downloaded a free sara figure a few weeks before off the member forum at DAZ, but it has a different file name. Is this the same file now or is it a new version of the free one? If I recall it right, the free version off the forum was a reduced poly version. The preview image of this new one does look like a low-poly-figure too, though. Are they both the same, or should I downlaod this new one too?

This week's freebie is "window to the soul" for Sara. It is eyes textures and MAT poses for Sara. Could not test them yet, but they sure look cool.

Woaaaaaahhhhhh 19 megs just for eye textures??????? Thanks for the information - they could have stated this on the downloadpage, though....

And what happened to the archives? When I went into the freebie page, it went straight to the product, with no side bar of links to the store, free archives, etc. Did they elimiate that? Melanie

Gareee ( ) posted Sat, 17 January 2004 at 9:40 PM

Yeah.. they had a message to grab anything in the archives, because they were leaving, bu tthey are already gone!

Way too many people take way too many things way too seriously.

Looks like it's still around...

westonmi ( ) posted Sat, 17 January 2004 at 11:19 PM

The archives seem to be gone. :( Followed the link and had to sign in, then it took me to a page with a street luge as the freebie. The page looked like the old freebie page and had a link for for the archives but that just took me back to a page saying thanks for logging in. A bit confusing...

It just worked for me 5 minutes ago...

"they could have stated this on the downloadpage, though...." Um, they do... From the download page... "Downloads: Mac: ps_fr040_WindowSoulSara.sit (19.2 mb) PC: ps_fr040_WindowSoulSara.exe (19.5 mb)" If you click on the image on the front page, in this case, the eyes, you will be directed to this weeks free item. If you click on the text under the image, you will be taken to the login screen and then to the archives.

Lucy_Fur ( ) posted Sat, 17 January 2004 at 11:34 PM

westonmi - After you sign in the full text says "Thank you for logging in. Access the free vault here." ;) click on the 'here' and there you go :)

melanie ( ) posted Sat, 17 January 2004 at 11:49 PM

OK, now this is really weird. I followed the link that HeavyRay has above, and it asked me to log in. When I logged in, it told me that I didn't have access to the vault because I was not subscribed to the DAZ newsletter. I've been getting the newsletter for as long as it's existed, so what gives? How did my subscription get deleted? It apparently gives me access to the vault now, but I haven't actually tried viewing it. I'll check it out and see if it actually works. I wonder if their system got messed up some way. Melanie

worked fine for me just now....:>)

westonmi ( ) posted Sun, 18 January 2004 at 12:04 AM

Lucy Fur yep and when I click on that link I'm taken to the page that shows the Street Luge as the freebie and has the sidebar links to the store, for unsubscribing, the freebie download & the freebie archive. I click on the link for the archive and I'm taken back to the page that says "Thank you for loggin in. Access the free vault here" There seem to be two freebie pages currently...if you use the link that HeavyRay posted you go to a page that has the Street Luge, but if you use the link in the top bar menu on any DAZ page (or from the newsletter) you are taken to a page with the "Windows to the Soul" eyes for Sara.

Geez now it's taking me to the archive page like it should...must have had to update something or other. :P

hauksdottir ( ) posted Sun, 18 January 2004 at 12:46 AM

They've been talking for weeks about doing some site redesign. We may be watching changes as they flow through the site... sort of like surfers trying to catch a particular wave, but knowing that we'll get to shore somehow. ;)

melanie ( ) posted Sun, 18 January 2004 at 8:45 AM

Well, I just hope the archive doesn't go away. I still can't figure out why it thought I wasn't subscribed to the DAZ newsletter and it made me subscribe in order to get to the archive. I've been getting the newsletter regularly for a long time. The street luge was last week's freebie, so they just have kept the old page in there, but have redirected us to a new freebie page as their new site design. Melanie

mateo_sancarlos ( ) posted Sun, 18 January 2004 at 1:14 PM

The street luge is in the archive now. Isn't it a bummer the way these snafus always pop up on weekends? That must be Murphy's 14th law.

hauksdottir ( ) posted Mon, 19 January 2004 at 4:21 AM

Is Murphy the name of a gremlin??? I'm sure that it is the gremlins! There's nobody around on the weekends, so they dance on the desktops and pull out all the phone cords for a game of crack-the-whip and practice their typing on some poor programmer's latest creation. Geting a cat will help keep rodents away, but nothing terrifies a gremlin except perhaps exposure on a webcam. Carolly

melanie: "I still can't figure out why it thought I wasn't subscribed to the DAZ newsletter and it made me subscribe in order to get to the archive." That's cause they set a cookie when you first subscribed. If your browser cookie cache gets cleaned once in a while, this DAZ cookie is loost also and therefore you will have to fill out the boxes again. Since I clean my browser stuff every day, I'll have to sign up every thursday again to their newsletter - if you use the same email addy and password, then that's no biggie. And when I first posted my message, the big preview image showed Sara and I thought it would be another character for the free Sara...didn't thought the WindowSoulSara would mean eye textures...LOL!

melanie ( ) posted Mon, 19 January 2004 at 10:15 AM

I haven't done any "house cleaning" in my computer for quite a while, so I don't know how the cookie could have been deleted. Unless somehow, when they were reorganizing the site, they inadvertently deleted my subscription from the database. Who knows! About 25 years ago, when I was a young gal, I belonged to a fan club that accidentally deleted my membership from the computer. They had sent me a letter letting me know and that they were fixing the problem. Anyway, just so DAZ doesn't get rid of the goodies. :) Melanie
