Subject: Carrara and Pz3?

shante ( ) posted Thu, 22 January 2004 at 9:57 PM · edited Sat, 30 November 2024 at 5:20 PM

Greetings... An associate told me of a thread in the forums that announced the new version of Carrara allows one to open Poser 4/5 Pz3 files right in the app to render. I went to the Eovia site but found no mention of it. I read through the new version 3 specs but saw no mention of that functionality. I took some beginner courses years ago in Infini-D and own Carrara 1x but because of a too slow system never learned it. Now running an iMac in OS 10x and want to upgrade to an app that will EASILY bring in Pz3 files for better control and render output and hoped this would be my ticket. If anyone knows anything about this touted capability please let me know. Sorry if this is a repeat thread but have too slow a connect line to check through all the threads in this forum. Thanks in advance for any help!

There is a Carrara/P5 plugin being worked on. I'm not sure whether it supports importing of pz3's or if it's just supposed to make importing individual figures easier, or what exactly. I don't even know if it will support Poser 4 or not (although I hope it will).

If it does animations, it has to import a pz3 file, like Ray Dream did. Lights, camera, figures, everything.

Attached Link: The complete press release on the Eovia site

There is information to be found online, this is from Mac News Network: Eovia today announced it will preview new technology code-named Poser Transporter, a plug-in for Carrara Studio 3 and Poser 5. The Poser Transporter is a plug-in that dynamically imports animated Poser 5 figures as well as import/manipulate Poser 5 scenes in Carrara Studio 3, including textures, transparency maps, clothes and animations. Eovia says it plans to release a final version for both the Macintosh and Windows by the end of the first quarter of 2004.

Really looking forward to this plugin!

Thanks All! Just what I needed to know. But I am gonna wait until this "announcement" turns to realware this time before dishing over my HARD earned chump change. Last time a software company made that claim it was breathlessly awaited only to turn to fizzie-ware. You must all remember RayDream Studio and the interface promise made to us when Poser4 came out. Hmmm?? Sounds about the same and with Carrara being a higher ended child of RayDream and Infini-D it all seems like DejaVu! We shall see sayeth the mise-er man!

To be honest I'd be happy with something just carried over my transparency maps and worked with Poser 4.

Poser is light on the ability to create and manipulate environments. I am primarily looking to Carrara as a place to create worlds for my Poser figures to inhabit. Over the years I have discovered that I just don't have the time and patience to create my own models from scratch. I own Carrara 1.2, but have waited to upgrade pending the release of afforementioned import functionality. Since Eovia and Curious Labs announced their "partnership" a while back I have been looking for this plug-in (which I hope will either be inexpensive or free. To me that would be the main reason why I'd dump almost $300 for the upgrade.

Tomsde I feel the same way. thought of taking advantage of the offer from Vue d'Sprit manufacturers and get the Pro version which, according to my understanding, also imports Pz3 files but it seems like a steep price and equally steep learning curve. IF Carrara also imports said Pz3 files it would be nice but then it would give different capabilities. Do you want nature environments? Get Vue. Do you want the ability to model and create MTs for Poser? Get Carrara. It would be nice if they were combined but they aren't. Meantime I'll just suffer with Poser! BLAHHH!

I'm looking forward to Shade (a very good 3D renderer), whose company is partnering with Curious Labs.
