I grew up also watching Capt. Kangaroo, Mr. Greenjeans, Mr. Moose and that silly little ping pong ball dropping rabbit every day before I would go to school. Makes me feel old to hear that he has passed on to the school yard in the sky. Sooner or later I guess the bell tolls for us all, but I for one shall miss the fine Captain and his jingling key ring.......
Warmest Regards,
Dallas
I just heard this earlier today, and it is indeed sad news! Our kids today don't really have someone like him to watch on TV, and it is really a shame. Sharen, don't forget grandfather clock! And all the ping pong balls!

So why not post this in the Off Topic forum instead of the Poser forum? Simple. Because the chances are that more people will see it in the Poser forum. That's why a lot of things get posted here as opposed to elsewhere. Yes, I was sad to see the news about the Captain.
Ah, me....another icon gone. I fear that our children will live in a world with no heroes, where the only moral thing that they see on television is the screen as it's being turned off, where people such as the good Captain are seen as relics of a bygone day that have no relevance in the modern world. Would that we had more such as he and his band of merry creatures to lead us once again through the sylvan glades of innocence where we may lay in the cool grass of our youth and listen once again to the stories that taught us truth, rightness, patience, tolerance, and basic, fundamental morality. Gone, but never forgotten. O Captain, my Captain...we already miss you.
I loved the Captain..what a sad loss. I grew up with him as well. There really are no good kids programs these days. I remember Kula/Fran & Ollie, & Romper Room. I had everything from from that show. In fact, when I lived in Illinois I was on the Bozo the Clown show. I missed the question on who in Popeye ate the burgers, it cost me a bike I was trying to win. Those were the days :) Bye Captain, you will be missed :(
The hollywod/broadway dancer Anne Miller died too.

Romper Room.... Sheriff John... Engineer Bill - red light, green light - drink that milk. I must be a real relic - I danced on American Bandstand when I was 16. "Can't Get Next To You" by the Temptations(?)was #3 on the Billboard charts. Years ago they had a retrospective and I was taping it. I almost fainted when I saw myself. I laughed til I cried!
you never know.

I loved the Captain. I watched everymorning before I got on the bus for School and hated the mornings when the bus came early and I had to miss part of it. Interesting Side note, I found not long ago, that the Good Captain was a former US Marine before he got promoted to Captain. Never would have thought it....
And let's not forget that Bob Keeshan (the Captain) was also Clarabelle the Clown on Howdy Doody. I remember that one well, too. BillyGoat, you must be from the LA area. I remember Sheriff John, Engineer Bill (who also did Castle of Dreams, which I appeared on for my 5th birthday), and all the others. Do you remember Chucko the Clown? :) Melanie
I think Bozo was franchised out. I was on the local version in Tulsa when I was six or seven. Commander Cody, the original Rocket Man....I'm going to go sulk because of the loss of heroes. But yes, we must carry on...Crabby Appleton and cohorts are just waiting around every corner for their chance to spoil the day.
I also used to watch a couple of local kids showswhen I was a kid in Sacramento, CA; One was called "Captain Mitch" (on channel 40) and the otherwas called "Captain Delta" (on channel 10). My brother was on that once. And there was also Captain Sattelite (I forgot what channel) . He has a flying saucer. Also, anyone remeber "The Friendly Giant"?
