Subject: Modeling for freestuff (an idea...)

pauljs75 ( ) posted Sat, 24 January 2004 at 4:17 PM · edited Tue, 24 December 2024 at 10:30 AM

I was thinking it would be neat to somehow analyze the freestuff searches that result in no matches. Then have something that counts how many times that non-existant (at least here at renderosity) item has been searched for. (No repeat counts from same members though. That shouldn't be too hard if using cookies.) Then the top 10 non-available items are listed. Why is this? Because those results would be handy for us modelers when it comes to deciding what to model next. Sort of a way of letting the suppliers to know what the demand is. Also it would be nice to have ratings and comments allowed on free items. So quality, usefulness, could be determined by people deciding whether to download. And modelers would get feedback on what to improve on, or what features might be implemented. Comments?

Interesting thought... I'll bring this thread to the attention of someone on the administration team who can help with search results. I don't know how easy (or difficult) this will be to implement, but I will make the request. As far as ratings and comments are allowed... they've recently implemented an updated ratings and comments system in the Marketplace, so the mechanics might be in place for this. Again, it's just how best to implement these things. Another useful place for modelers to look for stuff to create is the The MarketPlace Wishing Well Forum. Cheers! M

The Marketplace Wishing Well Forum is hidden in the Admin Forums drop down menu on the side bar. Took me a bit to find it myself and I knew it was on Renderosity!! Maybe a link to it should be placed in the Modeling Forums Title Banner above.

as a veteran of searching through freebies (I keep a database, 14,000 objects, and only 10,000 duplicates..;), I've found that the longer the description, the more likely the chance of not coming up with anything..but it never hurts to keep thinking..;)
