Subject: Gay Comic

I do this Gay Comic called Socially Restrained, Oh that sounds soooo gay Heh Heh. Anyway I draw and Ocassionally I let my friend Maxine write a few skits too who is also gay, But Im a bigger Lesbion then her even though Im a guy, Well sort of... Anyway... I started this project with a poser figure I did a characture drawing of, Then another and another and before I knew it I had a whole slew of characters to work with and behold!, I got my first legit comic. This is the is one of the characters in the comic, I made in poser and then drew over as a characture for my comic.

Both look really cool. I always laugh at the way gay men draw pecs. They look awesome but gay or straight men just love a big heaving chests. :) The toon face is kinda like a heavier Adrian Paul(sp?) You also did a great job on the bike and compression wrinkles in the clothing.

I think its wonderful - am looking forward to seeing the rest of the characters :)

These attempts to use poser were to speed up the process even though these are poser influenced tracings not renderings. Finally I decided to use poser as a guide to designing the scenes, which even though is more time cinsuming My art style stands out more that way rather then drawing over renderings I decided to use printouts to simply get me there.

DarkMatter_ ( ) posted Thu, 29 January 2004 at 5:06 AM

I also abandoned using complex backgrounds I found they really are not needed and clutter up the scene if your not using color. I found that Black in white also has a certaqin appeal that I like, I do color but not often, 90 percent of what I do is black and white, if you notice this is a remake of one of the panels from that strip up top where I reworked my characters, Oh that is Maximillion, Bruce's Bear Buddy, I bet you can't guess where he got his name from, hmmm Maxine?

DarkMatter_ ( ) posted Thu, 29 January 2004 at 7:13 AM

I later upgraded my technique, I found the Bike looked better rendered so It's all still a learning experience But as you can see I kind of wound up at the end of all this with my own drawing style that kind of evold from using poser, strange but true.

Are all of the characters of the "bear" variety or is there a mix. Looks pretty cool. David

A mixture of character types, Genders and Creed, including issues on aids, Religion, Politics and discrimination.

Is it online or what? Be interested to see the rest of the cast. Dave

DarkMatter_ ( ) posted Thu, 29 January 2004 at 7:47 AM

Bruce is my main character and that is who you seeing in the image above, Bruce is sharing a townhouse with 2 lesbions and an 8 foot Black Drag queen. Bruce has a boyfriend lover that's Maximillion also seen in his underwear in the image above that one. Maximillion is a little Oblivious if you get my meaning, Bruce is the smart one who is always trying to figure out the meaning of life and he get a little philosophical from time to time. Maximillion is very laid back and could care less, As long as he has his creature comforts....Hey where my remote!

DarkMatter_ ( ) posted Thu, 29 January 2004 at 7:54 AM

Ill put it online after I get enough material, Right now I only have a few skits that have been published. And my twain scanner is not being picked up by windows XP, so in order to scan anything I have to hok the scanner to another computer I have that much much slower and a pain in the ass to operate because it's messing u p writing disks, I had to toss out about 5 cd's because the hp cd writer wrote bad tracks for some reason.....HOwever the scanner works but getting things moved is a problem, Ill have to get the whole drive removed and put in the new computer I just hope windows 98 does not conflict with xp being that is a master disk drive with a windows setup.

If the computer in question has a USB connection, you can get what's called a USB kit that will hold the hard drive. I've got one and love it. I intend on using it to transport files and stuff back and forth from work so that I can work on stuff in both places and not clutter up my work computer.

I love you work and would love to see more of it. let us know when there is more. I for one like your bears very much!! Viva la Bear!! Just being silly, but if you have seen any of my work you know Bears are a large part of my artistic vision so anyone who does good bears is quite high in my book! The more I look at your pics the more I think it is kinda "Lenard and Larry" meets Tom of Finland and clearly your own special twist. very very hot.

Jackson ( ) posted Thu, 29 January 2004 at 9:35 AM

Nice work. One thing though: in the motorcycle pic, the bike is in motion, correct? Yet the spokes on the front wheel indicate the wheel isn't turning. Even if he was popping a wheelie the front wheel would be turning.

in the images above I was in the experimental stage where I experimented with hair, Animae, eyes the mouth and facial hair. These experiments helped me refine my characters.

ronstuff ( ) posted Thu, 29 January 2004 at 5:04 PM

Great work! I've been watching the evolution of Bruce over the past several months, and originally was not all that impressed blush but now you have really taken him to a new level, AND the comic is lookin really cool! Keep it up!
