heyas! who wanted those thin 'sheet' waves? i think i got those pretty good. the slightly thicker 'blanket' waves didn't turn out so hot. (these aren't technical terms, just terms i use.) the front won't roll down... i used a duplicate with just the edge un-dug out on the front of it. it looks weird. the third wave is supposed to be a crashed wave. it just ain't coming out right. it's too... vertical. i can't get it to roll down properly on the front, again. the cresting waves came out nice. i finally got wise and mixed the water and foam using the same function the caustics use. so, any suggestions to improve the waves? anybody want to mess with this file and experiment, let me know, and i'll post it for download. oh! this is how i made the sheet wave: in photoshop, on a black background, i painted the edge shape and filled it in with greyish-white. i made the edge a little whiter, and smeared back some foam trails... well, i was going to make it have the thick bubbly foam at the front edge, but... this looked nicer. i used the pic as a terrain thingy, and clipped the lowest bits out. shrink the vertical scale way down. the blanket wave is actually a duplicate, but taller, and with different material. the cresting waves are dune terrains, of course.

Hello, This is kind of like something I am trying to do but am having limited success. I'd be interested in the file to get some tips. hdrider

um... i forget, if i post the vue scene file, do i need to also include the mat files, or are they embedded? they are, but the picture-maps aren't, right? (don't mind me, i seem to be having an off week.)

Talking to yourself, eh? That's okay as long as it's a one way conversation. Catch myself doing just that every once in awhile. hdrider

Yes. The materials are included, but you'll need to add the texture maps. It would be nice if you'd upload this scene file.
