Subject: Renderosity pages.

Why is it when I come in or sign in I get merchant pages shoved in my face as pop up? Is renderosity so desperate it has to spam its members?

numanoid ( ) posted Thu, 29 January 2004 at 7:00 PM

I never get pop ups. No matter which page I go to first.

maclean ( ) posted Thu, 29 January 2004 at 7:26 PM

I come straight into this forum. Never had a pop-up in 4 years. One of the good things about rosity is it's lack of in-yer-face popups. If they started that, I'd leave. mac

momodot ( ) posted Thu, 29 January 2004 at 7:32 PM

All I get is a tiny banner at the top of my page... no problem.

fido13 ( ) posted Thu, 29 January 2004 at 7:33 PM

I always go to the front page. Never see a popup, but I have popup blockers on my browser, so that may be why.

They haven't started the Flash animation banners, have they? I think my browser blocks that stuff though.

Hi, I don't have pop-ups either, but, I posted this info & link in the Coordinators Forum. All the Admin have access to that Forum. It WILL be looked into. Thanks, Thomas Poser Coordinator

Weird, it's an actual pop-up (seperate window) ad? That has Renderosity products and logo on it? I've never seen that. And, I don't have my pop-up stopper utility activated, and I don't block cookies.... When you log-in, what part of Renderosity are you going to? Do you just type "www.renderosity.com", or are you responding to an e-bot, or hitting a favorite? AgentSmith

I don't have any pop ups either and I come in the front way too. Were you at a previous site before coming into Rosity. If so might be from that site. As far as I know Rosity doesn't do pop up ads.

Watch out -- there is a dangerous outfit around......

I will not post the link to their site, lest some hapless individuals are tempted to go visit there. I'm not so sure that I should even NAME the outfit.

This particular program loads itself through an open port - and it installs zillions of pop-ups onto your computer. The program comes from a "legitimate" commercial site, with real advertisers. I believe that the site is run out of Japan.

It is extremely difficult to cleanse your system of the pop-ups once this thing installs itself on your hard drive.

Among other effects, this program will redirect all of your internet searches to the "commercial site's" web search engine. Also, it will automatically assign their webpage as your home page.

Someone that I work with "caught" this program from visiting a website. And he's not a slouch when it comes to PC's.......he's had a rough time trying to rid his system of this thing.

Install Zone Alarm. Protect your ports.

Are you taking about "Gator" or any of the other spyware programs that come with "free utilities"? Just a warning to everyone: when you click on a banner ad on MSN or Yahoo or CNN and then download a little "utility" (like a "clock updater" or "4,000 free smilies"), you will probably get spyware like "Gator". These programs watch which websites you go to and pop-up advertising windows based on your preference. (No, there is no "no pop ups" preference.) These programs may even hijack the banner ads on the websites- a banner on this site may be replaced by a company who is a client of the Gator software. You can use programs like Ad-Aware or Spybot to clean your machine, but they may not find every entry made by the spyware program.

XENOPHONZ ( ) posted Mon, 02 February 2004 at 5:40 PM

No, it wasn't Gator that I was referring to -- the website that I am referring to makes Gator look like a pleasant holiday by comparison.

I won't name the site here. This is due to the fact that a visit to their site, unprotected, results in an instant infection.

You will not notice the change at first. But the next time that you reboot, you are in for a nasty surprise.

So, on balance, I will not post a link to that site.

BTW - my friend that "caught" this "pop-up program" repeatedly used both Ad-Aware and Spybot to delete numerous spyware programs from his PC. Unfortunately, this particular program "hides", and it will re-install all of the spyware each time that you reboot your PC. Portions of the program have to be removed manually. Meticulously. Time consuming. Ya don't want this one.

Just wanted to let you all know that Renderosity does not have pop-up adds on this site. If you see any more of these, please get a screen shot and email it to me and Renderosity will investigate. Best regards, LillianH Renderosity Marketing & Promotions
