Subject: Xfrog trees - how do I use them in Vue???

elgyfu ( ) posted Sun, 01 February 2004 at 9:15 AM · edited Mon, 23 December 2024 at 4:49 AM

Ok, I brought the latest copy of 3d World with its copy of XFrog3.02 on the cover. I had read somewhere that the trees and plants it generates are great in Vue. But I can only save as xfrog's own format! There are included plugins for various high-end softwares, but the only one I have of these is Cinema and I have version 6 and it is only for 7 or above. Can anyone tell me if I can use this fascinating prog?

Go to our backroom and see xrrog to Vue in the users tutorials.

wanted to say Xfrog, not xrrog :-)

That does sound easy - but I can not find a blasted export option! Any ideas? This is version 3.02 that was free on 3d World - it is clearly described as a full version.

We had such a story already last year when xfrog "full version" was given away in 3Dmagazine. Nobody ever here in the Vue forum could use it correctly. Read the above thread -especially the ORIO posts- because he is working for Xfrog. I say :-(

2bad for you and thnx for posting about it. Although its still a nice deal if youre going to buy the full 3.5 version, saves u some $

3.02 has only limited export options, you need atleast 3.5 Lite (3.5 Lite = 3.5 Full - animation) to use it with VUE. The cheapest option imho would be 3.02 plus XfrogTune which will export XFR as OBJ and does a good job of poly reduction too, better IM Orio about that combination before you part with your $$.

I bought 3DWorld for the Xfrog freebie as "cheer me up" after some recent PC woes. And I discovered the same thing: the "full" freebie doesn't save in any format other than its own. However, turn to page 67 for the update offer which ends 15/04. Basically the offer allows anyone to buy Xfrog 3.5 Full for the price of an upgrade. If I understand the Greenworks' online ordering process correctly, 165USD equals 90GBP inc TAX and air mail within europe. The USD to GBP exchange rate is currently very much in the favour of us Brits so don't wait too long before upgrading.

Cheers,
Mark

Sorry forgot to say that hein is absolutley right: Xfrog Lite is the cheapest option. It's only 109USD delivered (60GBP) but exports in OBJ format only. This is fine if you only intend to use the models in Vue.

Cheers,
Mark

Now I know I'm going senile, I forgot the link to Xfrog's site showing which software is supported with its products. Missing from the list of programs are Carrara Studio 3 and Amapi 7 both of which import all major formats including OBJ. Right that's definitely it. I'm off to bed.

Cheers,
Mark

Looks good. Seems this is a cheap way to get XFrog Lite. I love Vue 4.2, but I definitely need more plants. ...running to the book store to get 3D Worlds...
