Subject: C4D and Poser?

I post this in both C4D and the poser forums because the questions involve both apps. I have got the free version of Cinema4D R6. It seams to be a great 3D app, and not impossible to learn but I want in firs place use it for complement for poser. It vas told to be a full version but it is limited to a fix render size 600x400 and I use 640x480 for my animations. Not good! I have made some simple props in C4D and export as OBJ. In poser this props not texturing normal but become black in render. I have test to convert in UVmaper and Twoface, but no result. 3Ds works perfectly put if I want to make clothing or figures in Poser I need the OBJ format. Is there any way to avoid this problem in export from C4D or import in Poser? I wonder also if I can import Poser animation to C4D.

Well the version you have sounds like Cinema 4D CE, which was included with 3d world magazine (and others). You can upgrade it to CE + which would then allow you to render at much higher resolutions. And to export to .obj format you can do it without the upgrade. -LeFrog

Now try to flipp normals and it works! The props render correctly.

Yes, that's the solution. C4D exports OBJ format with normals inverted to what most other apps read (UVMapper, LW, Poser). Also, Poser does not use or like double-sided polygons, so don't use them. Also, when importing Wavefront OBJ into Poser, you only really need two things of importance: invert normals (when necessary) and Percentage of Standard Figure size. The second one is critical if you want your imported props to be relatively sized to the human figures. A Poser unit (with some debating aside) equals 8 feet (1 poser unit = 96 inches). When calculating the percentage to use, a simple formula suffices: (largest dimension (X/Y/Z) of imported OBJ in inches) * 100 / 96 inches = Percentage to use This gives a percentage that will keep all imported OBJs sized properly to each other and human figures within Poser.

C makes it easy to shoot yourself in the foot. C++ makes it harder, but when you do, you blow your whole leg off.

*"I wonder also if I can import Poser animation to C4D."* You can, but it requires the propack and cinema4dxl version 7-7.3.3 only

As for setting the obj scale, since Poser uses a much smaller scale than C4D does, you can set the conversion rate in C4D : go to the preferences for obj import/export and set the size to 1000. (I'm not a modeller, but that's what I've read elsewhere, so I'm just repeating it here in the hope that it's useful to you...)
