"What 3D Program Should I buy?" Not one person here can really tell you what's best for you, as everyone has their own taste in workflow. Try the demo or learning edition of the program you're interested in, this is the only way to find out which programs you like.
:) As the even bigger guy (M) has not only provided us with a nice set of guidlines but also a nifty sketch to work from, I would say let's go for it! With one exception... WIPS must be posted here if you plan to enter the challenge, gang. No wips = no entry. The whole point of the forum is to learn new techniques from our fellows and there's little way to do that if we hide our works in progress. So it begins...
"So, I assume it is for advanced fellows." It's for everybody Emmar, you'd be more than welcome to join in. Believe me everyone can learn from everyone else so your contribution will be just as valuable as anyone elses. Remember it's not a competition it's for fun and to improve your modelling skills. So have fun and be sure to post your work in progress, everyone will be glad to offer advice, it's the best way to progress your skills that I know of! - Baz

We've started a modeling challenge over in the LightWave 3D Forum... and there was a suggestion that we might as well open this as a free-for-all challenge. Unlike a "prized contest", the challenge is really to flex your modeling muscles and try out new techniques. Not sure how February got picked as the month for the "Gun" Challenge", but you have to admit that it's different. :oP Just as a real quick disclaimer we're not advocating violence or guns one way or the other. This is a subject matter that will allow us to experiment with both organic and mechanic modeling techniques. But, if it makes you feel any better, we can try a pottery challenge next month. :o) If you feel like joining in, just post your WIP's and test renders here in the Modeling Forum. At the end of the month we'll have a final call for entries in a submission thread, and then ask forum members to take their pick by voting. Remember this is a modeling challenge, so while renders are more than welcome, wires and meshes are required. Let's just wait to hear what the big guy (Teyon) says. If he blesses this idea, then we are good to go. :o) Cheers! MMind Over Matter
