Subject: Dead slow computer hassle

Greetings.
i've desided that growing old sitting in front of my computer is not the form of aging I desire.

I've got a 1.4 system with 512 mgs, gobs of storage blah blah blah... it takes forever for poser to load. I mean forever. The program opens then I'm blessed with a coffee break while the credits run, which i follow up with a pee break as it loads a default figure. when I return I am ready to begin but bored of the idea of dragging my sorry ass through the program.

Would someone like to suggest the ultimate (home based-starving cannibal artist budget) computer system tht will give me faster realtime working speeds. Or should I wait until Pixar is having a garage sale?

One thing that would immediately help is to get rid of the default figure. Clear everything out of the display so that the only thing you can see on the menu is GROUND. Then use Edit:General Preferences and hit "Set Preferred State". Close Poser, and when it asks to save Untitled.pz3, be sure to save that to the main Poser directory. Another thing: If you have any folders "parallel" to Runtime, move them down under Runtime. At startup, Poser looks through everything at that level, which takes time. Overall, more RAM is the best way to speed up Poser's performance, but that won't necessarily help at startup.

My thanks to Ockham about the "parallel to Runtime" thing -- I didn't know that (and I have tons of parallel folders, mainly due to free-stuff installing bits there...) Cheers, Diolma

I'm totally stupid here...how is something loaded parallel to runtime. It sounds like a great fix but I'm a geek to this.

pararehabra: "parallel to..": in this sense, means "in the same folder that contains..". So all folders/directories in the folder that contains your "Runtime" directory are parallel to it... (btw: "folder" and "directory" are synonyms - they mean the same thing -- sorry if any confusion arose from that) Hope that helps..:-)) Diolma
