THE PLACE FOR ALL THINGS BRYCE - GOT A PROBLEM? YOU'VE COME TO THE RIGHT PLACE

Subject: a tad bit "jealous".....

icandigit ( ) posted Fri, 06 February 2004 at 9:11 AM · edited Sun, 24 November 2024 at 8:40 PM

i took a LONG walk thru the marketplace.... in the whats hot, not 1 product for bryce... (i got bored of LQQKING....) in the whats new, not 1 product for bryce... (i got really bored of LQQKING....) whats the deal guys?!? (maybe you guys know of another place for bryce 'stuff'?!?) is poser just too overwhelming?!? maybe i should take a crack at it, just to "put us on the map"... suggestions? requests? ideas, comments or snide remarks?!?

(i just cant stand to see a program as badass as bryce but "shoved to the side" like cold french fries.... yea, im jealous! bryce deserves to be #1!!!!!!)

more reflective spheres, less boobs and ""crotch shots"" i say....

hey, I can send you free 3ds low-poly models, if ya like..;) 'Problem' is, Renderosity started out as a Poser site, so they've been at the top of the food chain for quite a while. To be honest, I mainly use Poser as a source of figures for Bryce renders..;) Look at the flip side; Bryce just takes objects, mats, and skies, and that's all that needs adding. Poser has hair, skin, eyes, props, magnets, poses, and on and on..;) We can do more with less..;)

BOOOO!!! Burn the Poser wench!!!! :P I could sell things if I wanted to... but no one would buy them, lol. So I just give them out for free: http://www.freewriters.ca

icandigit, I've heard more than one person say that the render engine in Poser is junk. They just import into Bryce for rendering. That should make you feel better, eh!

judyk ( ) posted Fri, 06 February 2004 at 12:21 PM

Perhaps we should suggest to Curious Labs that they take on Bryce... it would save them having to write a decent render engine for Poser, and the two products would be back under one roof again. Their existing Poser users would find the Bryce interface very familiar, and they could maybe bundle the two packages at a discount. It would give the figure artists a great renderer and background-generation tool, and it might give us Poser figures/textures that import a little more easily into Bryce. Plus some hope for a Bryce 6...

electroglyph ( ) posted Fri, 06 February 2004 at 1:20 PM

The problem is Bryce modeled objects can't be used in any other program. If I do an object in Rhino the bolean union/difference/intersections are permanent. If I make this in obj format I can sell to the poser, bryce, 3ds, lightwave...etc. communities. Why limit my customers to 1/10th of the community when it takes the same effort to produce a finished object in each app. Incidently, Bryce and Poser were both owned by Metacreations and there were plans to integrate Poser animations into Bryce. Poser was spun off into Curious Labs and Bryce was sold to Corel for cash to bail out the company. I doubt very much that management at Curious Labs and Bryce/Corel would integrate well after splitting so recently.

Hey, I like building things in Bryce, but I've never put anything together to upload. I'm not really sure how to go about it. How do you prepare a "construction" and save it out of Bryce so that it can be uploaded to here? Any tips in that area? I've noticed a "export object" command under the file menu but it always seems to be grayed out. What kind of object CAN be exported? and how do you make that kind of object with Bryce? -- Jeff in Arkansas

AgentSmith ( ) posted Fri, 06 February 2004 at 2:33 PM

This site leans towards Poser, since it was first started as just a Poser site, so there is a larger base of Poser users, products, etc. And, yes there are fewer Bryce products coming out of the MP. I just started as a MP tester and truly notice how 7 out of 10 products are for Poser only. I'm still hoping to change that a little myself.... There are some Bryce skies from Wappen I'm about to release. Curious Labs - Unfortunately, I believe they have now sold Poser? (Or, have I misunderstood some info?) AgentSmith

last I heard, Poser was purchased, or in the process, by a German firm, or that the Japanese program Shade was going to be in on it..if you bop over to Poser, they'll have the skinny..;)

It was the Japanese company Shade who bought Poser. Their own product is a beauty and if their renderer was included with Poser then the program would be so much better. 8) Catlin

I think that, aside from what Agent Smith said, Bryce pushes a user to be more creative and less reliant on other people's stuff. There are so many workarounds and techniques to be played with, so many of us feel guilty trying to "sell" our stuff. Materials, for example? Any one of us COULD make procedurals. The tools are all right there... I would rather just post a mini-tut about a material than try to capitalize from it. Perhaps it's that kind of attitude that keeps me a hobbyist, but it's just how I feel... Originality is the path, and patience is the key...

sackrat ( ) posted Fri, 06 February 2004 at 9:47 PM

Just say no to Curious Labs, as far as taking over Bryce anyway. I remember when Poser 5 first came out,......I was all hot to have it, but could not afford the price at the time,.......then I started to see all the discontented users in the forums, plus Curious Labs policy on the number of installs and not being able to have ANY version, previous or otherwise, of Poser on any other machines. Well, I'm glad I didn't get P5,......Poser4 is just fine,....and all I use Poser for is to make figures for Bryce renders anyhow. I've never had any problems importing Poser figures and textures into Bryce, so long as they are exported as .Obj files.

hey, dont get me wrong.... i dont "hate" poser... (i depend on it for my figures), but bryce is just "so damned cool".... i really feel it deserves more attention..... even if this was/is a poser site, i think i shouldve seen something in the marketplace for bryce before i "got bored for looking"...... im all for a bryce/poser union.... its like "why did kfc take so long to market chicken sandwiches"???

AgentSmith ( ) posted Fri, 06 February 2004 at 11:43 PM

Oh, I look, Zhann, especially after becoming a MP tester... I would love to see items for Bryce you don't truly see; new paths, new presets for the DTE Library! Etc... AS

Yeaho! i just got Poser 5 from a friend who can't use it on their machine. I'm figuring out how it works until they can upgrade their computer or whatever. I was amazed how easy it was! Very awesome!

Make sure you go and get their SR3 patch for it at Curious Labs! AgentSmith

AgentSmith ( ) posted Sat, 07 February 2004 at 5:05 AM

They're used for animating and for creating a "string" of objects. Basically, you create an object, set in on a path, and that is that certain paths shape the object will travel during an animation, or that certain shape path that, that object and its duplicates will travel to take on the shape of a string of pearls or a link of chain, etc. Find them under the create menu, right under "mountains" AS

Paths can also be used for getting the camera to follow a route around your scene. I don't animate much but I did use a path to set my camera view on the first one I ever did. 8) Catlin

whats this business about making tubes??? i thought there wasnt any way to do this. but alas, as i am a bryce 4-er... cant i use any shape and set it to stretch across the length of a path?!?

icandigit ( ) posted Sat, 07 February 2004 at 9:11 AM

.... and then i looked thru the actual bryce section of the market place......... there IS tons of good stuff. i was really impressed at the 'stuff' i saw... poser 5 must be some REALLY great stuff then... i wouldnt know what to do w/ it if i had it....

AgentSmith ( ) posted Sat, 07 February 2004 at 10:03 AM

"cant i use any shape and set it to stretch across the length of a path?" - Yup, you don't need 5.0 for that. Well...not "stretch", but you can multi-replicate that shape over and over along the length of the path. AS

Ahhh, I remember paths now, so some new paths in the marketplace, why would anyone buy a bunch of paths, wouldn't they be project specific?

AgentSmith ( ) posted Mon, 09 February 2004 at 2:24 AM

Sure, but they would make great templates to start with as they can sometimes be a tedious task to shape them how you want. If you could start with one that was close to the shape you wanted, that would cut down on some time. But, honestly they really aren't a broadly used item. I'm thinking of making a set of Bryce procedural Mat's for the MP, we'll see. AS
