u actually get the option to choose the vue plants for free(basic library) when purchasing xfrog 3.5 full, unless you prefer to get them in another format. When buying xfrog 3.5 full u get the basic library for free in both xfr and one format of choice (and one of the available formats is vue) the others are cinema 4d bryce lightwave 3dsmax and poser

So if you get them in Poser format they can be imported into Vue? Two birds with one stone?

iloco ( ) posted Sat, 07 February 2004 at 11:47 AM

I have been looking at the 6 Cd set of USA Plants and notice they don't have a vue format to choose if one is to buy from Greenworks. That is holding me off from purchasing the plants. $500.00 is a lot to spend for plants that still need to be converted to get them to work in Vue, especilly when will be used only for a hobbiest and for making images just for fun. If one buys the plants then I see no reason for purchasing xfrog if it be needed for the conversion to vue format. Maybe I am missing something and someone can explain if they will import into Vue ok. :)

They are already converted and they cost (20x3 trees) 119$ if you only buy the plants.

war2 ( ) posted Sat, 07 February 2004 at 3:46 PM

yep the basic library is already converted if you would just like to buy the plants. however since u are then limited to just those plants, i would personaly spend another 100$ and get the full 3.5 + the then free vue version of the basic library, that way u can create new plants aswell. Or if u pick up the 3d world mag u get the upgrade to 3.5 full from 3.02 for 100$ something which is the same price as for just the basic library. As for the 6cd set Usa plants iloco, they unfortunate enough doesnt seem to be converted, as far as i can tell, the only xfrog trees thats pre converted to vue is the basic library, which consist of 20 trees in 3 different seasons.

Are these plants .vob files or are they added to the plant library as .veg files. If they are a species (.veg) then you get an infinate amount of random generated plants for each of these instead of a single plant (for each of the 20x3). I am guessing .vob as they have exact poly counts.

gebe ( ) posted Sun, 08 February 2004 at 3:03 AM

sacada, these are vob files. They cannot be veg files, as they were not created with SolidGrowth. Each plant from Xfrogs lib comes in 3 versions, as the renders (see link in my first post above) shows.

You don't need the Xfrog Full version, if you don't do animations. Got the free version from 3d world mag and ordered the upgrade to Xfrog 3.5 Lite. I also get all the plants in Vue format (*.vob). Just at $89.

Here is greenworks reply to my email about the US bundle of xfrog plantts. "Sorry only our Basic Library is currently available in Vue format. It is possible however to purchase OBJ versions of the USA bundle libraries, and these load into Vue quite well. ( if you order, just tell me via email that you want OBJ, as currently there is no tab for that either )" I will wait a while longer and hope they convert what I want into Vue format. Maybe we need more Vue members to speak up and let them know we like their plants as well as users of other softwares. :)

nice to see the reply, they seem pretty reasonable so i woudnt be surprised if we would see more plant librarys pre converted to vue soon. and yeah we need more outspoken vue users :) thnx for posting it iloco

I ordered the xfrog lite so to get the basic trees in vue format. Greenworks told me if enough Vue users were interested in plants in vue format they might convert them to vue format. Let them know if any Vue users would like to have this happen from xfrog. Maybe a few emails to xfrog will get their attention. :o)

Hi folks. I happened to be corresponding with Mr. McSherry yesterday about the possibility of vending individual Japanese trees in Vue format from their collection on our new web site. He probably will decline our offer to host them, but he did share with me that they will be converting all their tree libraries directly to Vue format. So, be of good cheer, and just be a little patient.

Thanks forester that is good news. I have a couple friends that would be interested in xfrog plants if they were converted to vue format. :o)

Received my copy of xfrog Lite and the basic plants library today. Xfrog informed me that the other plants are being converted to vue format because of a few request that have been made. I think all Vue users that use these converted plants should give Xfrog(Greenworks) a big Thank You for converting the plants for us. :o)

Well, they do a quite good job. Got Xfrog Lite this week and I love it. Just think about getting other plant sets too. They look very nice. Thanks - Walter
