Subject: Music Video released using POser and Carrara

Per CL's news letter. I watched the "Punk Rock Girl" Video for the group Yesmen(whoever they are). What did you guys think? To me it... well...it looked like it was done in Poser. I mean it doesn't look great. In the opening she's even out of sync with the start of the fast rythms of the song. Creative? Yes. Interested? Sort of. I don't think it qualified for a mention on CL's website though. Its not good enough for that.

I am curious as to where to find this video. I myself am involved in a project for college right now, where we are developing our own music video and would just like to see someone else's work. If you could tell me where to see this vid, that would be great. Ryan

The idea is well good but no quality at all, and everything move as a 15 frame/sec.. bvh was bad

Its not too bad, though she does walk strangely in a few scenes, with her arms out.

I agree, that one seems rather amateur considering. Here's one done with Poser and 3DSMax I found that is a lot better. They don't actually mention Poser in their credits or process, but it was made clear on another CG board that it is indeed Poser figures used.

Now SOULPIX don't use poser in own creation, they use only MAX, and some geometries purchased by Daz and some textures around and I know because I work together with this company. And what was used in this animation clip was not Poser fido13 it was Daz millenium girl geometry setup under Character Studio and not poser setup figure. So I don't see here any reason to mention poser with this creation. In short time there come out a top cartoon animation clip using the free Sara geometry, very well done btw using Max..

"And what was used in this animation clip was not Poser fido13 it was Daz millenium girl geometry setup under Character Studio and not poser setup figure. I knew Poser wasn't capable of that kind of video composite by itself. However, I felt it's worth mentioning the video since Daz geometry is such a big part of the Poser culture. :)

Mec4D ( ) posted Sat, 07 February 2004 at 12:24 PM

Ok you are right too, but when D|S is ready and somebody use daz figures this don't mean they used D|S for production, you know what I mean.. if I use max bvh in poser animation don't mean I used Max for the end product too.. and that is what I mean.. I will mention a software only when I used it to render or produce my artwork with.. If they did this, everyone was thinking direct it was done using Poser and that will wrong because as you said you can't create something like this using Poser, nah when you spend more time LOL hhahahahaa

fido13, That video link you posted. Definatley better than the video mentioned by CL. Visually. Musicly it worse. Infact its pretty bad. The character animation it it, while better than the other still was lacking though. Could I do better? I hope so but probably not.

Blur014 ( ) posted Sun, 08 February 2004 at 11:45 AM

Well, after seeing the majority of comments posted here, it is becoming clear to me that most people don't like animations done with Poser. I am wondering how well a animation done with WorldBuilder with Poser characters imported will turn out, and if anyone has any advice on it...

Mec4D ( ) posted Sun, 08 February 2004 at 12:43 PM

You know the customers that pay for the work don't care if is that poser or not, they like and pay for the work, we see this with different eyes and for us is this maybe nothing special. Important is final effect and not what you use,, if the video above show the quality of Poser5 and is presented as a spot at CL then I am off, thanks to production as this nobody will talk positive about Poser.. as always CL spare the bucks.. Not that I am a master in Poser animation..nope , but you don't need an expert eye to see if that is good or not.

Yikkes! Those CGI dance moves are pretty strange looking. And I thought Britney Spears was a bad dancer ;-) And the band is...........Uggh. Has anyone seen the new Quizno's commercial with the singing burritos singing wayyyyyyy off key? That's what the lead singer sounds like to me. :-) -ScottA

xantor ( ) posted Sun, 08 February 2004 at 8:49 PM

Poser was originally made to make characters for other 3d programs. That is why up to version 4 had a basic renderer.

pjanak ( ) posted Mon, 09 February 2004 at 12:22 AM

Well, regarding Posers's history the purpose that xantor mentioned was...well...never mentioned. All of those Quiznos commercial are pretty awful. Actually the singing burritos one was at least curiously interesting. The others were pretty awful. Quiznos really needs a new marketing firm. I am sure that a highly skilled individual could make poser animations look just as good as most other pro animations. All be it requiring 200% more effort. Its overall design is very poor. I think alot of people use it to create characters for use in other programs. Wether thats what Posers intent was in the first place or not.

xantor ( ) posted Mon, 09 February 2004 at 12:44 AM

I am sorry, but that purpose was OFTEN mentioned.

pjanak ( ) posted Tue, 10 February 2004 at 12:33 AM

Not by the creator and those that worked on the software. THat I have read and been told anyway. There is an old thread where a former employee gave the history of Poser and he never mentioned it was to creat figures for use in other programs. Eithere way thats reall all Poser is good for even now.
