I up the haze for moring mist but a lot of people use sphere's with volume mats. The village could possible use a better texture like maybe a thatch type for roof,if they are separate parts, other then that the scene is great :O)

yeah the village is lost in the shadows a bit. its really quite ugly thats why i want to hide it with mist. the jpeg compression goes someway to explaining why they are crappy. should I move them into the "sun" a bit more? The sun is actually a spot. i found i couldn't mauniplate it enough to get the right effect. i got my inspiration from my early morning rides into work through the country lanes of south manchester/north cheshire i really wish i had a digi-cam for reference....... Hiding it with mist is not the answer. Bring down the ambience on the rooves some (they are glowing) and maybe up on the walls a little (if they are supposed to be white or gray and not purple). I'd actually cut down on the haze some, and put in some sort of road or pathway to and through the village. Then, perhaps some clumps of trees and other landscaping ... oh, and a low stone wall or two or three. Break it up a bit and give it some additional interest. Maybe make each house or building a little different than it's fellows. Oh and maybe a patch or two of flowers ... it could be Tuscany.
Could be worse, could be raining.
Sorry I took so long to reply burgi. The mat I used was, I believe, Summer Soldier Slab Clouds (4th from the left, top row, Volume Category). You might have to play around with the density and frequency to get the look you're after. The player on my taskbar is Windows Media Player Version 9, available free from Microsoft. When minimized, it looks like that.

I'm try to go for an early morning look. I need help on creating some early morning misty tendrils, any tips? plus i would like some feedback on the village. is it me or does it look crap? As always, comments are welcome, critiques are also welcome (at least you've looked at it!). John
