Subject: Watching Carrara 3 -- and the Transporter

XENOPHONZ ( ) posted Tue, 10 February 2004 at 5:55 PM · edited Sat, 11 January 2025 at 3:19 AM

If and when the Poser Transporter for P5 becomes available, I'll most likely purchase Carrara 3.

It'll be a worthwhile investment, I think.

But -- I'm waiting on the Transporter.

So far Eovia have made no announcement over pricing.

bijouchat ( ) posted Thu, 12 February 2004 at 4:15 AM

Eovia would do them a turn of good by making it free with C3. Would be a great enticement to more Poser folk to buy C3 instead of Vue.

war2 ( ) posted Thu, 12 February 2004 at 10:41 AM

i dont see it as using c3 instead of vue, to me c3 looks like a great complement to vue, and of course the other way around, ive been trying the c3 demo extensively and ive almost convinced myself of picking it up as a complement to vue 4/4 pro. But i cant see myself using just c3 or for that case just vue4/4 pro, in my eyes whats appealing is to use em together since both series have completely different strenghts and weaknesses and both series are very user friendly and the price range is more then affordable aswell. but thats of course just my opinion :)

bijouchat ( ) posted Thu, 12 February 2004 at 12:39 PM

oh I have Vue 4 (not Pro) I use it to make skies a lot. But there's no doubt that Vue has Pz3 capabilities that Carrara just doesn't have yet. I'm hoping that the transporter works a bit like the Raydream plugin did, where you can do everything inside Carrara in a room.

war2 ( ) posted Thu, 12 February 2004 at 4:25 PM

yeah improvement is always welcome And since im considering buying into c3 i hope they continue to improve it alot :P btw, the vue 4 pro demo is out aswell, and part from not allowing you to export your models/scenes, and animate more then 5 seconds or render anything bigger then 640 its fully functional and not timelimited, u might wanna take a look @ it since you have vue4 aswell.

I still use both Poser 3 and RayDream Studio 5.5 with the FREE plugin for Poser 3. The way rendering looks in RDS 5.5 and the character control P3 both combine for decent animations even by todays standard. Ive already upgraded Carrara 3 and Poser 5. Since Poser Transporter is exclusive to only to the C3 and P5 programs, paying extra money seems like an unnecessary vice on my shrinking wallet.

Hi, I am new to carrara 1.1, I just ordered c3. I have vue4 and vue pro and I am getting carrara 3 to learn to model, I have had truespace 5.2 for over a year got training from the company site, I still cant get it, took a look at c2 training online w/vtc and WOW! its great I`m already learning stuff. Getting back to the subject...transporter sounds neat! my 1st time hearing of it, and vue and carrara will compliment as does poser. : )

Let's hope that the Transporter is for real -- and that we will see it soon. I'll bite.

Yes Transporter is for real. Eovia exhibited it at Mac Expo Last Janurary. I missed the show because I did not know that they would show Transporter there. If they did I would have went over there. I wonders if hair and clothing dynamics is included. If it is included then it is worth buying at Eovia's suggested retail price. Carrara 3 have awesome renderer, modelling (not totally), and physics. GI and caustic are important addition to renderer for realistic perspective. If anyone have any snapshot, clip or video please post it in here!!!!! Without Transporter, Carrara is nothing but a scrap.

I have Poser 5, Vue 4 and Carrera 3, (Yes i have invested heavily), I have been spending quite a lot of time recently learning C3, still a way to go but what a journey! the more i use it the more i discover its possibilities the more i like it, Yes the promised Transporter will make it better for Poser5/C3 users but i am getting some very exciting results now just inporting poser figures and scenes as wavefront objects from Poser, the only slight problem sometimes are texture locations or placing, but these can usually be sorted out easily, I find i use Vue4 mainly for backgroung images only, the import of PZ3 capabilities is useful but i find the renders to be greatly inferior to C3, These of course are my own views but i thought i'd share them with you, here is a link to an image i recently did using a figure posed and exported as a Wavefront object in Poser 5 then imported in C3 and rendered over a Vue4 Background, C3 even rendered the shadow onto the backdrop, hows that for neat? http://www.renderosity.com/viewed.ez?galleryid=608532&Start=1&Artist=Bigt&ByArtist=Yes Regards, BigT ;0)

BigT -- Your image is well worth the look -- and quite impressive. I have Vue Professional, which I have found to be an enormous improvement over Vue 4.2. For many reasons. However, Carrara definitely has strong possibilities. I'm actually looking at several 3D programs at the moment. Most likely, I am going to end up purchasing Lightwave. However, with the P5-specific Transporter in place, Carrara would also become a valuable tool for me. Thanks for sharing your image with us.

bigt - nice work! XENOPHONZ - I have vue pro sidegrade too, just got it in 2 wks ago,ooo the possibilities..: ) XENOPHONZ, what are your resons for light wave? (just wondering, always like to learn more about 3d products as well as how to use then.) I have C3 comming in any day now, and I am so glad I ordered it, can`t wait : ))

kim258 --

The first thing that got me interested in Lightwave was its extremely realistic render capability.

Since then, I've started doing some research into various high-end 3D programs: 3DS, Maya, Lightwave....also trueSpace. So far, Lightwave seems to come out on top of the heap. While all of the programs have their advantages, Lightwave produces incredible renders out of the box, and it doesn't need some sort of add-on or plug-in to achieve this. A couple of the other programs need plug-ins to do some serious rendering.

Also, many individuals believe that Lightwave is more user-friendly than the others. It has a better interface.

However -- I've got more research to do.

XENOPHONZ, Thanks for your responce : ) Sounds good I have noticed this, as in 3ds max I started a trial version and when I saw the U.I. I hated it, lightwave is better that way..its what I like about Carrara 3, in a way lightwave is simalar with "different rooms/tabs" to do different things, also poser has this concept, 3d is fairly complicated and "rooms" neaten things up. Ive been watching online video tutorials on the vtc website on carrera 2, and I have been amazed at how easy it is to learn and all the neat feachers it has : )
