Subject: A morale dilemma

Nilla ( ) posted Thu, 12 February 2004 at 8:48 PM · edited Mon, 10 February 2025 at 2:45 PM

This test only has one question, but it's a very important one. Please don't answer it without giving it some serious thought. By giving an honest answer you will be able to test where you stand morally. The test features an unlikely, completely fictional situation, where you will have to make a decision one way or the other. Remember that your answer needs to be honest, yet spontaneous. Please scroll down slowly and consider each line - this is important for the test to work accurately. ======================================================= You're in Florida...In Miami, to be exact.. There is great chaos going on around you, caused by a hurricane and severe floods ...... There are huge masses of water all over you.... You are a CNN photographer and you are in the middle of this great disaster. The situation is nearly hopeless. You're trying to shoot very impressive photos. There are houses and people floating around you, disappearing into the water. Nature is showing all its destroying power and is ripping everything away with it. Suddenly you see a man in the water, he is fighting for his life, trying not to be taken away by the masses of water and mud. You move closer. Somehow the man looks familiar. Suddenly you know who it is - it's George W. Bush! At the same time you notice that the raging waters are about to take him away...forever. You have two options. You can save him or you can take the best photo of your life. So you can save the life of George W. Bush, or you can shoot a Pulitzer prize winning photo. A unique photo displaying the death of one of the world's most powerful men. And here's the question: (Please give an honest answer) Would you select color film, or go with the simplicity of classic black and white ?

I think black and white would capture this moment perfectly! :)

Oh, black and white definitely.

Could be worse, could be raining.

LOL! Nice catch!! ;)

Why couldn't I shoot color and then use Photoshop to get a black and white image?

TomDart ( ) posted Thu, 12 February 2004 at 10:30 PM

Frankly Scarlet...Well, I would I would try somehow to save the man's life. Why? This is why: A man who used to own the company where I once worked commented on Andrew, the hurricane. He lived on Captiva Island, apart and separate from the "trash" affected mostly in death and distruction of the storm. He wished "they had all been washed into the ocean". That is essentially my answer. Whether Gore or Bush, someone I don't know and cannot judge from the politics..I would hope I would make an effort to drop the camera and save that person. Then again, a nice BW image of me on the land, having saved that person would be nice. There is pride coming in. Well, we are human. God Bless. TomDart.

Couldn't agree with TomDart more. :)

I would set My Camera on Color....and on the 10 Second delay Shooting....then I would Heroically Dive into the Raging Waters, rescue George....drag Him ashore ....and hopefully I could be giving Him/Her, Mouth to Mouth Resuscitation just as the Camera went off....I would probably have to reset the Timer again....because when I start Kissing ....I get carried away.....I am that spontaneous....sometimes I catch Fire ! Muuuuuuuuuuah! If this didn't wok out the first time....why I would sling Him?Her back until He/She responded to My Passion....and I got a Perfect Shot :]

rickymaveety ( ) posted Fri, 13 February 2004 at 11:00 AM

Well, if I HAVE to save him (which wasn't one of the options, by the way), then I would be standing next to Boy George, who would heroically dive into the raging waters, rescue George, drag him ashore, and would be giving him mouth to mouth ... and then I would get the Perfect Shot of that.

Could be worse, could be raining.

Nilla ( ) posted Fri, 13 February 2004 at 12:58 PM

Applauds rickymaveety! You are right, saving him wasn't an option, your options were black and white or color! LOL! Now having a picture of "Boy George" giving him mouth to mouth, that would be PRICELESS! :)

rickymaveety ( ) posted Fri, 13 February 2004 at 1:10 PM

Thank you, thank you (deep bow). And, as long as it's a shot of "Boy George" in a lip lock with "George W" then, assuming Boy George has on some really outrageous makeup and a bright outfit, then I would go with color.

Could be worse, could be raining.

Well, if the option is color or bw, color for the news, very saturated color and cropped to Tedz for the National Inquirer story, bw for the coffee table book.
