Subject: Poser and Limitations

arrow1 ( ) posted Tue, 17 February 2004 at 2:53 PM · edited Tue, 04 February 2025 at 10:42 AM

I have tried to render seven V3'S on a worldz V2 background, and all it did was sit there all night with a blank render status monitor.I controlled alt delete and was told Poser was running. Is this too much for Pro pack? My machine is a Dual Athlon with 2.6 plus processors with 1.5 gigs of ram on a Windows XP Professional platform with over 89 gigs of free hard drive space and the Propack memory updater. Is it time to export or import my figures into Vue or some other application to render.By the way this is only a still render 650x450 pixels. Any suggestions would be welcome! arrow1

One trick is to ctrl alt del and choose poser then hit the switch to button. Sometimes it works and sometimes not. Marque

Marque ( ) posted Tue, 17 February 2004 at 3:01 PM

lol just tried it and it locked up...though I know people here have done it. Maybe someone will chime in with the answer. Marque

Marque ( ) posted Tue, 17 February 2004 at 3:02 PM

Take that back, just did the switch to about 4 times and it finished rendering. Marque

I did a multi-figure scene once and I had the same problems you had. (2 V2's, 1 steph, 1 freak, 1 daz hound, 2 davo's robots, and high resolution textured building props, several clothing pieces, and several misc props) See link: Fearsome Foursome I had to break the scene up into two seperate renders and combined them in photoshop. I rendered them in 2800 X 2100, and shrank them in photoshop. JV.

I just pulled 9 into Poser 5 and although it stuttered it rendered. Marque

JVRenderer ( ) posted Tue, 17 February 2004 at 7:36 PM

Yes, it happened in P5 SR3 also (even with the memory patch installed), along 4096 MB of scratchdisk allowed.

Did you try my trick? It took a few times but it did work even with 9 V3's. I had the memory patch installed and had nothing but problems until I un-installed it. Marque

JVRenderer ( ) posted Tue, 17 February 2004 at 9:27 PM

I've owned Poser 5 since it's inception. Installed and reinstalled it various times with all the patches on 2 different computer systems (1 amd 2800+ with 1 gb, 1 P4 3.06 with 1 gb). I still wasn't able to get it to work right, so I've gone back to Propack. It's not my hardware, because Cinema4D and Vue 4.2 works fine on the AMD 2800+. JV

Correct -- it is not the hardware. It is the stability and settings of the software environment of the system, which is likely not set up specifically with Poser in mind. Not a bad thing, mind you, just a point. Incidentally, the Propack memory updater is NOT recommended for Poser 5, and may, in fact, decrease the stability of the program.

The situation is not looking good as after I did my still render I was hoping to animate my scene. It will work ok with four figures.I might try and make an AVI with four figures and reimport it back into poser and animate the other three in the foreground with the original scene running in the background.Has anybody tried this? arrow1

That should be fine. Realize however that you will want to render the first clip as an uncompressed AVI or sequentail stills. Import that clip as a braground and then render your or charctares moving around.

IN that case you will have to render to green screen each group of characters render and then composite in a video app. the green screen will allow for shadows so you can then see the character shadows on the background image. Assuminng that you do not have a full scene. COlor the ground the exact same color as the background. Use intense green.

arrow1 ( ) posted Wed, 18 February 2004 at 2:49 PM

Sorry to be a pain, but can you explain this a little clearer? I have made my first image (which is now my background) as an AVI.and has ground shadows from the previous figures.I have imported four figures with a blank background, rendered and made an AVI over the background.I am not sure how I render to green screen. arrow1

How clear can it be? Well maybe it wasn't enough. Your charcter is in the default scene Color the background chromokey green. Color the ground plane chromokey green. Render your AVI. Create a background scene if you want. LIke a room or something Render that as a still image. Import the still and the AVI into any video editing app. PUt the still in video track one and adjust the length of the still from one frame to the total length of the avi. import the AVI and load it into a video track about videotrack 1. Since it has a solid green background you can chromokey out the green to expose the background image clip underneath. AS your character walks its shadow will be visible through the chromokey. Thereby appearing as though the final output is actually a single render.

Chromakey Green is a pure green, hon. Chromakey Blue is a pure Blue. in RGB values (that red, green, and blue), the green is 0 Red, 255 Green, 0 blue. The Blue is 0 Red, 0 Green, 255 Blue. These colors are used becuase they very, very rarely appear in most other things, allowing you to sort of "trim out" the parts that are green, leaving only the end result. This is used in movies all the time for special effects.

Sorry if I took a few things for granted. Even if one is not in the movie making or 3D animation business, many a layman by now knows how hollywood does there special effects. At least thats what I thought. Sorry.
